The York contingent have returned from the 107th College Art Association conference in New York City! When the city is teeming with Art Historians chances are you are going to run into some old friends! Here is Teresa Kittler, who gave a paper entitled ‘Habitat’ with former Yorkie, Sarah Victoria Turner, now Deputy Director of Research at the Paul Mellon Centre, followed by James Boaden with his PhD student Kyveli Lignou Tsamantani who gave a paper: ‘David Birkin’s “Profiles” (2012): Invisible atrocity images and the 21st century ‘anxious spectator’’, then Jeanne Nuechterlein who was attending in her capacity as Deputy Editor of ‘Art History’ at the Helma af Klint exhibition at the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, and finally former MA student Adel Kormanik presenting a section from her dissertation in a paper titled “Forget Burial”: The Myth and Afterlife of David Wojnarowicz. @boadenjames . . . . . #history_of_art_york #arthistory #uniofyork #universityofyork #caa #caa2019 #paulmelloncentre #sarahvictoriaturner #aah #arthistoryjournal #davidbirkin #davidwojnarowicz #guggenheim #guggenheimmuseum #solomonguggenheim

Today at #CAA2019 I had the honor of being on my first all women of color panel - "Critiquing the Rhetoric of Newness in Contemporary Art of Color." The discussion was rich and I met more good souls. Many thanks to Anni and Amanda for organizing our session. Unfortunately we didn't get all of our group in this snapshot. But #weouthere! #contemporaryart #curatorialactivism #museums #thisiswhatcuratinglookslike #curatorialstudies #museumstudies #criticalpraxisinmuseums #MuseumsAreNotNeutral

Congratulations to Co-Chairs Christen Clifford and Jasmine Wahi for organizing the brilliant RAPE, REPRESENTATION, RADICALITY day of programs for The Feminist Art Project @ CAA!!! It was an honor and pleasure to be part of It. From the perspective of 3 years spent on research of rape in art, the program was immensely interesting: nuances of different tones and perspectives of art historians and activists/artists, of survivors and supporters. To be able to capture these sometimes micro differences and the development of a fast changing discourse was INVALUABLE. They also included performances – and they curated them (and our emotions) pitch perfect. And we had a crowd in the audience!! Thank you for the invitation, and for organizing it! Congrats and thank you to all who spoke: Connie Tell, Indira Bailey, Vivien G. Fryd, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Emma Sulkowicz; Suzanne Lacy and Leslie Labowitz (on video), Jaishri Abichandani, Natalie Frank, Carmen Hermo, Naima Ramos-Chapman, Kalliopi Minioudaki, Talia Lugacy, Maria Hupfield, Viva Ruiz, and Scheherazade Tillet and performers: Katya Grokhovsky, IV Castellanos, Ayana Evans @tfapatrutgers #tfapatcaa @cd_clifford @browngirlcurator @tellconnie @indirabailey.art #viviengreenfryd #mariamagdalenacampospons @emsulk @suzanne.lacy #leslielabowitz @jaishri.abichandani @nataliegwenfrank @naimaramchap @caliops @talialugacy @mariahupfield @chocolatinaruiz @sherphotographs @katyagrokhovsky @iv__castellanos @ayana.m.evans #feministart #metoomovent #unheroicact @collegeartassociation #caa #caa2019
