Building community I need your input. I have a question for y’all about kitchen finishes. I’m deciding on faucets and cabinet knobs this week.
Polished nickel or chrome in the kitchen? And do you think the faucet finish needs to match the knob finish? And what about the finish on the Appliances matching, does that matter? .
.
I love polished nickel for less finger print marks. (I know that’s what I want on my fridge for that reason!). But I love the shiny look of chrome on the faucet! But should I be practical and go with less finger print markings with the brushed nickel faucet? And I can’t decide on the knobs and if they should match? Help! Would love to hear your thoughts.

Love me some @carcabaroad... ➡️ scroll to see her kitchen pics. All of hers is brushed nickel. Her main faucet is as well (I thought it was chrome but it’s not- It's Kingston Brass) Her kitchen looks .

I Totally enjoyed our Australian vacay, however I was still working out home build details from across the world while we were gone! I was emailing back and forth with our cabinet company about our kitchen design. I am so excited for how my vision is all playing out and I can’t wait to see it and share it with y’all! I’ve thought through so many details. .

Check out my stories for some of my little details I’ve incorporated into our kitchen design

Do you make your own jig for drilling out kitchen knobs and pulls or use a manufactured jig?
I have a couple of manufactured jigs but haven't found them as handy as this #tinytiptuesday jig I made up many years ago.
Actually two jigs - one for doors and one for drawer fronts. Both made from 3/16" - 1/4" acrylic sheet with wood stops.
The door jig is kerfed into 1x stock on both two sides so it's reversible. The face is scored with a 1/4 in. grid in both directions just for reference - but most often I put a piece of tape on one door as a reference and pinpoint the drill hole(s). Then with the jig in position, drill through the plexi. The rest of the doors get a hole in the same spot.
The drawer jig has a stop on the back side and a thin 1 in. long saw kerf at the top in the center (mainly for easier viewing when aligning to center reference marks). Pairs of lines are scored in the plastic at common center distances for pulls (3", 96mm...). A few horizontal lines are scored parallel to the stop for reference. Once a pair of holes is drilled all I need to measure and mark center points on each drawer front.
I can do a dozen or so kitchens with the same jigs before the plastic is too riddled with holes. And to prevent the chance of using an old hole on a new job, I fill the old ones with hot-melt so there's no mistake.
