Pictured is the “Milagro” that I gave Matt on our wedding day. Milagro means miracle, and you gift them in times of a prayer that has been answered or when a healing has happened. For me, my vocation to marriage was both. The heart was filled with important little treasures from our relationship and notes. But it meant even more to me- it was a gift of self, a long awaited prayer for my future spouse. As I think back to this last year, it fills me with awe that we have a new little one on her way. And a whole new Milagro. A little miracle and answered prayer. May this Milagro remind you of the miracles in your own life. Ones that come during difficulty, challenge, joy, peace. He longs to fill our hearts with treasures and care, and fulfill the longings on our hearts with miracles.

The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the love of a mother.
.
- St. Thérèse of Lisieux
.
If you’ve ever wondered what will be in the future, if these things we say, over and over again, are sinking in, if they’ll actually remember our words about God, and His great love for them. Our momentary lectures over a messy kitchen counter or a van ride to soccer - about manners, right and wrong, respect, dignity, sacrifice, love.
If these daily tasks we repeat, unglamorously, really matter at all. Honestly.
.
We think of St. Anne. And we can let out a sigh of relief. Because, although our Blessed Mother was without sin, she was still HUMAN. She still had to watch, learn, pray, grow, form habits. She wasn’t preprogrammed.
And she learned 90% of those traits from her parents.
Just like our kids do.
So, quiet St. Anne, pray for us, who are doing little things - the effects of which we may never see on this side of heaven. Help us to hope and trust like you!

I fell in love with St. Thérèse over a few unexpected roses. I fell in love with her parents, St. Zélie and St. Louis Martin, when my cousin climbed a tree for me to take a picture of the Martin’s family garden in Lisieux.
.
I was only 19 at the time, far from being a wife and mother, but it was then that I realized that without that garden and the parents that walked through it with their beautiful daughters, Thérèse‘s vocation and later canonization may not have been possible. It was there, on that narrow road, watching my cousin hold precariously to the branch of a tree while snapping photos with my camera, I realized in a very specific way this simple truth: as the family goes so the saint grows.
.
So the Church, in her wisdom, gives us this family of saints. This husband and wife, whom through joys and devastating suffering clung fast to their vocation. They fiercely loved their children, but let them leave the roost to follow where God called them.
(That’s no easy task, I’ve learned)
.
So, I DO NOT HESITATE to ask their intercession. I see through them how God has placed me right here, in this home, where our carpet needs replacing, the two year old wrote on the wall, and the seventeen year old routinely forgets to unload the dishwasher.
The miracle is this: that it’s not in spite of but precisely because of these little things that I will find my way to heaven, through the mercy and grace of God.
.
I’m pretty sure Thérèse wasn’t the first Martin to echo the words “My vocation is love.”
.
St. Zelie and St. Louis, pray for us!

On our way out the door to the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday I tried to get a quick picture of the girls in their darling new dresses and skirts from @babymylove.etsy but our littlest didn’t want to cooperate! I shared more pictures and links over on the blog: www.showerofrosesblog.com/2019/04/easter-outfits.html #holysaturday #eastervigil #fssp #easterdress #easterskirt #twirlydresses #babymylovewear #catholicartisans
I’ve heard people say, “You don’t choose your saint, they choose you.”
.
And, I thought “well, that’s just silly.” A nice sentiment - but really, we just need to read, study, line up interests, careers, vocations, struggles with a virtual slot machine of saints, and the right one will pop out. All set.
.
Until I met Blessed Solanus.
It was like he reached out and grabbed my chin so I would look at him. Hear him. Ask him for his friendship and prayer.
He wanted to be a part of our family.
He had/has things to teach us.
So here I am, with too many things to say than the insta character count will allow.
so I’ll just leave it with that.
Heavenly friend, thank you. And, pray for us!

“Courage therefore, and with the soul’s eye fixed on the goal of eternity, struggle on!”

Let us begin in earnest to work out our salvation, for no one will do it for us, since even He Himself, Who made us without ourselves, will not save us without ourselves.
.
- St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
We are an essential element of our own salvation. Our fiat, our talents, our family, our story, our triumphs, our struggles and temptations. These make up the trail of stepping stones to our unique throne waiting for us in heaven. Carved from the palm of His hand.
.
So if you’ve ever thought, “if I were more like her...” “if I could have his life instead...” “then I could become a saint”
No.
.
He wants you, his beautiful child, with all your intricacies and quirks and challenges. He wants you, perfected. By stepping along your own path, clinging to Him.
That is our Way.

I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.
.
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
.
He is what I need.
He receives us with such tenderness and mercy.
Even that one thing that we think we can’t surrender, that’s it’s too embedded, too humiliating. Unredeemable.
No.
That is precisely what He waits for.
So He can show us the fullness of His love, redeeming and renewing even the darkest corner of our heart.
Giving us the very peace of His life.
.
“... I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.”
