"Like nothing humanity has seen before." Ceres has what scientists believe to be a giant mud volcano!
A new theory suggest that the 13,000 ft mountain, named Ahuna Mons, developed when a giant mud bubble arose from the dwarf planet's depths...and then froze. ❄️ Credit: Dawn Mission / @NASA / @nasaJPL @Caltech / @UCLA / MPS / @germanaerospacecenter / IDA)
The "lonely mountain" of the dwarf planet Ceres, Ahuna Mons, is seen from above in this image from NASA's Dawn spacecraft, and in a simulated perspective view based on data from Dawn.
Scientists have now solved the mystery of how the mountain formed. An ascending plume made of a mixture of salty water and rock rose from within Ceres. Once that material erupted onto the surface, it formed a mountain 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) high and 10.5 miles (17 kilometers) wide. While this process occurred at very cold temperatures on Ceres, probably below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius), it is similar to plumes of magma forming volcanoes on Earth.

Here’s an idea of how small you are, how small we are, this is all the celestial bodies inside our solar system, then beyond, leading into galaxy comparisons then to our universe, our home the Milky Way is 100,000 light years across which is an insane size but compared to other galaxies and bodies in the universe we are merely nothing, watch and enjoy, comment your favourite celestial object below #space #elonmusk #now #uranus #interstellar #size #nasa #deepspace #explore #interstellar #spacex #cosmos #explore #science #dwarf #ceres #moon #planet #exogalaxies #uranus #neptune #mars #pluto
