White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) Hyperlapse in Chiang Rai, Thailand . Wat Rong Khun is a unique temple that stands out through the white color and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun. The white color signifies the purity of the Buddha, while the glass symbolizes the Buddha’s wisdom and the Dhamma, the Buddhist teachings. It’s burning season in Northern Thailand and Chiang Mai currently has the worst air quality in the world. Every year from February to April the farmers in northern Thailand burn their fields to prepare their land for the following year and the skies here are extremely smokey because of it. Even after having driven over 4 hours north of Chiang Mai to the highest point in all of Thailand, all could see in front of me was smoke. I’ve already gone through quite a few surgical masks since arriving and I have feeling ill be going through quite a few more...

Guan Yin - The Goddess of Mercy ✨❤️⠀ ⠀⠀ This temple is mistakenly referred to as the Chiang Rai Big Buddha when it's actually representing the compassionate Guan Yin. Guan Yin is a female Bodhisattva in Thai Buddhism, which means someone who has attained Nirvana during their lifetime. The white Guan Yin statue is 23 stories high and you feel really tiny standing in front of this beautiful statue. Visiting this Temple was an absolute highlight and in my opinion, a must visit when in Chiang Rai. ⠀ ⠀⠀ TRAVEL TIP: You can go up in the lift to the top of Guan Yin for just 40 Baht ($1). Even the temple lifts are elaborately decorated! The “Long Neck Village” is located in Northern Thailand, just outside of Chiang Rai. It’s home to the Karen tribe, which is commonly called the Long Neck tribe. Many fled violence in Myanmar and came to Thailand. The women wear golden rings around their necks, beginning with their first ring at the age of 5. One ring is added to their collection every year until they’re 21. This village is controversial and people have mixed opinions on it. Is it right that these women are tourist attractions and photos are encouraged? Do they wear neck rings out of choice and tradition, or to entertain tourists? Tourism provides an income to the village and I bought several things while here to support them. Have you been and what’s your opinion?
