"Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men …” Colossians 3:23.
We generally work a little extra hard when the boss walks in. This happens almost unconsciously, and may not seem like a big deal. But it actually reveals a deep truth about ourselves: We are born with an instinct to care deeply about what others think of us. Why else would we not have been working just as hard the whole time?

Your struggle, your hard season, won’t look like anyone else’s - so don’t compare it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I admitted to a friend that the difficulty of my current season seems so silly when I look at my friend who walked through breast cancer. Or my friend who lost her baby. “I feel guilty that this - a broken leg - is so hard for me and my family,” I told her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I realized today that just as comparison is the thief of joy, comparison is a thief of growth. Until you own your season, grieve its losses, and sit with it in all its personal hard-ness, you won’t be in a place to grow spiritually.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ignoring things is not a strength.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This season is hard for me, hard on us, and it gets to be hard. And owning the “hard” helps me turn even more to God in faith, lean even more on my community, and depend even more on my husband. And the funny thing about embracing difficulty is: it gives you MORE compassion for people who have gone through heartbreak... not less. My hard things motivate me to pray, live, and give to those whose losses are greater than mine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pain is pain. Don’t compare it. Come to God in it. Grieve it, and grow.
In 1 Corinthians 8:1-2 it says: “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. And if anyone thinks he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.” I must ask myself, “What is it that I really know? Have I asked God what He thinks? Do I trust that He knows best?” If I really believe that all wisdom comes from above, then I will be humble in my own eyes and admit that I have a flesh (ego) in which nothing good dwells. (Romans 7:18)
The only power that can build and edify is love.
God cannot help me if I am so puffed up and conceited that I cannot hear His voice guiding me. In such a state it is not possible to love God and other people.
If I truly hate my ego, I can instead use God’s wisdom to make peace in all situations, regardless of which side is right or wrong, instead of just escalating the conflict. “…whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.” 1 Corinthians 13:8.
Knowledge might impress or bring honor for a while, but it is temporary and does not bring salvation and peace, or allow me to bless and love others. It can be useful when applied in practical situations, but doesn’t show me how to have a pure and fervent love for God and all people, as Jesus did. God can do a glorious work if I humble myself and accept His wisdom in my situations. Then love will abound!

What idols are you placing at the forefront of your hearts? Because, let me tell you, those things will always let you down. But Christ, He offers us freedom. So, take up your cross and follow Him, for it is only in Him that your reward can be found.⠀

Plagued by your past? “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert...” Isaiah 43:18-19,21.
With a living faith in God it’s possible no longer to be burdened by the things that have been!
If we have asked Jesus to forgive us our sins and have brought our life into order where it concerns other people and where we have had a bad conscience, then we can turn our back on the powers of darkness for all time. Christ has redeemed us with His precious blood from all manner of sin – be it great or small. Through faith we have been translated forever from darkness to light, from death to life, and from Satan’s power to God!

God WILL give you more than you can handle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Following Jesus will not always result in your physical blessing or comfort.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You will not always FEEL like seeking God.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Faith will not come by osmosis and bible study is going to take work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Growing in faith will take you through some of the most undesirable and difficult circumstances.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These truths ☝ you won’t find in a lot of the “Christian” pink fluff teaching because - who wants to pick up that kind of cross?! We want lattes and cool glasses and affirmation of our plans. But to teach otherwise is to lie. Look at the books of Acts, Thessalonians, 1 & 2nd Peter. LOOK AT THE LIFE OF JESUS! How can we think we are safe from suffering in following Him, the Man of Sorrows, acquainted with grief (Is. 53:3)?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Listen. I know it’s scary. As I enter week 3 of 9 in my own cross-bearing my prayers aren’t pretty. But we have in hardship what many are missing: The presence of God. Before you hyperventilate about what COULD happen, remember this: This fallen world is going to be fallen. You can face it with the power of Christ, or you can face it without Him.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I choose to press in. I choose to draw near. I choose to run to my one Answer, my firm foundation, my eternal & present Hope.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He has not promised us a suffering-free life, but He *has* promised the fullness of His love when suffering comes.
