The front section of the Pizitz gallery recently reopened with a new installation of contemporary works. It features pieces new to the collection, along with many that haven’t been on view in years. "Revolutionary" by Wadsworth Jarrell depicts Angela Davis, a political activist, educator, and writer who became an international public figure during the Civil Rights Movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. In this portrait, words from her speeches swirl around her and emanate from her hair.
Wadsworth Jarrell was co-founder of the AfriCOBRA movement, which formed in Chicago in the late 1960s. This collective of African American artists sought to create a visual aesthetic that embodied principles and elements of the Black Power Movement.

It was produced and directed by #EddieMurphy in 1989. The story takes place during the Harlem Renaissance in the lives of burgeoning African American entrepreneurs who face-off with a 1930s organized crime syndicate. Our heroes get the last laugh in the end! #itoosingamericafilm
