It’s hard for many people to understand that reptiles can express emotion, so I’m going to paint a quick picture to help express how sweet this girl is. I currently have 9 tortoises (& 1 Terrapin) and 9 iguanas (4 different species), all of which are less than 3 years old. Of those 18 reptiles the iguanas are the ones who grow the most rapidly. It is natural for them to go into shed regularly throughout their lives. However, as none of mine are full grown, they shed even more frequently. Keep in mind that the iguanas are also the most social of all of my “critters.” With that being said, whenever they are shedding, they tend to keep their distance from one another, and humans, as the process of shedding makes them feel uncomfortable and irritable. They can get a little grumpy and temperamental from time to time. However, Kimora is THE exception! Whenever she goes into shed, and isn’t feeling “herself,” she seeks out human contact at all costs. All she wants to do is snuggle and be held! She is on the verge of going into a full body shed, and today she wouldn’t leave my side. She followed me around my classroom for a half hour first thing this morning. Of course, every time, I would pick her up (or let her climb up onto me), but each time I tried to put her down she did everything in her power to keep clinging on. {since the walkout is going on & I can’t share what’s going on in my classroom I’ll share a fun memory with you...} We once had a duck in my classroom & my kids FREAKED OUT. They loved him so much. Winston on the other hand, was not so fond of him. I’ve had so many class pets in my 5 years teaching! Baby chicks (that we incubated & watched hatch), a leopard gecko, hedgehog, mini red-eared slider turtle, another guinea pig, salamander, & fish. Winston is the only one that I couldn’t let go of!
