As kiddos we had limited control over our environments, little or no agency to change what was happening in our lives, our homes, our schools.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Our younger selves came up with ways to cope that were adaptive to the world around us and helped us get through.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Now, as grownups, those same behaviors can feel like they're keeping us from adapting to our environment - to getting vulnerable and dating, to speaking up at work meetings, to letting someone know that we're sad or mad or to hold space for our own tenderness or grief.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ ️In this week's episode of the Feminist Wellness Podcast I talk all about Adaptive and Maladaptive Coping Skills and how vital it is to love ourselves while we shift, change and grow, versus being mean to ourselves, or making ourselves feel bad for having these old coping mechanisms still in our psyche.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ So often, these coping skills were born of a hurt - so how then can we heal a hurt with a hurt?
