Finnished the Colorado Trail Race yesterday at 4pm!!! It took me 7 and a half days to get from Durango to Denver, 575 miles and a Massive 77,000 feet of climbing!!! (Stony Pass twice ) I'm more or less in one piece, but I had a lot of patellar knee pain and unfortunately my right MCL is injured, couldn't move it lateraly without pain (aka getting on and off the bike on that side). But after a good night's rest everything feels way better! I went hard and was hoping for a 6 day finnish, dispite missing the Silverton store closeing by 20min. But after making the decision to go back to Silverton for a new tire (sliced the side wall) that wasn't going to happen. At the time I told myself that I'd be able to make up the setback but the cumulative fatigue two Stony Pass laps on top of the huge first day was too much. In the end I'm so happy to have finnished in one piece! This is me last Saturday, about a third of the way into the Silverton Ultra 55K (approx 37.5 miles). Why was I smiling? Many reasons: Because I felt good running & hiking above treeline again! I felt like I got my groove back. I was on a buffed-out section of the Colorado Trail nurturing dreams of fastpacking the whole CT from Denver to Durango next summer. I was mentally making preparation notes for next month’s Grand to Grand Ultra stage race. I had been admiring columbine whose purple petals were a deeper shade of violet than I’d ever seen. And I was happy to see photographer Howie Stern once again. I really recommend this race by @dirty30running. Megan Finnesy does a great job organizing it and building spirit among the participants. The first 20 miles are not too hard compared to other ultras in the region; the first 6 miles follow runnable train tracks, and then the climbing & terrain feel pretty manageable. Then the terrain & slopes become Hardrock tough. In fact, it finishes on the final climb & descent on the CCW route for @hardrock100run, up Putnam Cataract Ridge to 12.4K’. (The 55K’s total elev gain is about 7.2K.) The afternoon rain, thunder & lightning enhanced the adventure & “fun.” The event also has a 100K that I’m considering for next year. Whereas last month I totally bonked & walked much of the last segment of a 50K, last weekend I felt strong and raced the clock as best I could at the end. I was first in my new 50-59 age group & 15th F overall. Ranger Ride Notes: 7/18 24.4 miles, 4,487 ft of climbing. Snow workaround on the scenic alpine loop over Cinnamon Pass and then to the mining ghost town of Animas Forks. We passed remnants of a house taken out by an avalanche this winter plus countless other slide paths. We learned Cinnamon pass actually only was cleared and opened yesterday afternoon! We camped up the road from that in California Gulch near 12,000ft. We felt good about our work around based on the snow levels on the road. One of our favorite days so far! Happy we could still get up high despite the snow to explore alpine environments. #blackburnrangers #coloradotrail #getoutthere #exploremore

Kenosha Pass -> Georgia Pass is now at the top of my favorite sections of trail. Arrived in Breckenridge this morning to resupply, looking forward to eating real food and showering!
