In the studio, I have a shelf full of pieces that I need to think about for a while. This one was there for a few months, waiting for it’s moment. I walked by it this weekend, it sparked joy and into the kiln it went!
Was it Worth the wait?
Bespoke paper flower crown in shades of white, with painted washes of blush, periwinkle, taupe and stone ⚪️
This crown was designed for a wonderful friend, and was the exact challenge I needed. When I create pieces for you to wear, I want to make sure it is an expression of you, as if you made it yourself. Because in a way, you did!
Making paper seem lifelike is a complex process, and I love it but I also understand its creative limits.
Sometimes a final swipe of paint or pinch of glue makes all the difference, activating stiff paper into something that can breathe. But colour is so much a part of that energy, like flushed cheeks suggesting warmth!
So when I can’t rely on the vitality of colour, how else can paper come alive? And what can it say?
