Recently, I have been playing around with different weight-bearing shoulder exercises, which I feel is helping my shoulder complex. . Starting off with a great accessory: Cable “X” pulls: good one for addressing posterior shoulder complex (rear belt/RTC/periscapular musculature). ✔️ . Then to two weight-bearing exercises: 3-way shoulder reach, which incorporates anti-rotatory components challenging the shoulder region. This is one of my favorite ways to work on core strength. It’s made a big difference in my ability to control my pelvis & spine, and it might make a difference for you too! . . . In this video, I’ve hooked a resistance band around an anchor point (in this case a 50lb kettlebell), and then I’ve pulled the band taut across my yoga mat. . . . In lieu of a kettlebell, you could also hook your band around a table leg, staircase railing, squat rack, etc. - anything that’s strong & stable! . . . Then I push my low back down into the resistance band to hold it in place. The idea is that if my low back were to lift away from the floor, the resistance band would snap back toward the kettlebell. . . . (And if that happened, then I would know that I lost the connection I wanted to my core - know what I mean?) . . . Keeping this pressure on the band to firmly pin it in place (which is the equivalent of actively engaging my abdominal muscles!), I lift my legs off the floor into a tabletop position. . . . Because I’ve been working on this for awhile now, I like to add on by reaching my arms overhead. But this is optional, and if you’re newer to this move, just keep your arms reaching straight up toward the ceiling. . . . Slowly & with control, lower one leg at a time toward the floor. Only lower as far as you can keep the resistance band in place. Don’t let it snap back toward its anchor point - use your core strength to keep it right where it is! . . . If you don’t have a resistance band, you can always do this with a yoga strap under your back instead. In this case, the strap won’t pull itself to the side if you lift away from it, but it will still serve as proprioceptive feedback for you to keep your core controlled. . . .
