To continue our #DiebenkornDraws series today, #RichardDiebenkorn creates an entirely fresh depiction of the pair of scissors here, pulling and pushing thick oil paint around the prominent forms of scissors and half of a lemon. Bright red and a mint green and white striped tablecloth offset the objects. . Scissors and Lemon, II has a somewhat tumultuous provenance history, being stolen from the Oakland Museum of California in 1977 during an opening reception for the artist’s major traveling retrospective. It was recovered three days later by police from a counterculture artist group who referred to themselves as the Art Liberation Front. They were known for protesting the arts establishment, and in a letter to local news station KQED, they explained their theft was meant to comment on the disproportionate attention given to art’s high prices over aesthetic values. . What is Longboardarian about? It’s about our LB community and culture. I drove a few hours south for an interview with CJ Nelson for the podcast. As I was getting ready to share some waves with CJ, Malia, Seamonster and the crew at San O I noticed this couple of longboarders that I would have bet my left ......, ear that they were father and daughter. I asked politely if I could take a pic of them after confirming that indeed they were father and daughter and I explained that the picture would be used for Longboardarian. They said “ you might not want to use the picture after you see us surf” which I responded with “ I’ve been looking at you guys for the last few minutes getting ready to go out and the pic is about the stoke I see in your faces”. They chuckled.
