NINE BY NINE! Woohoo! That’s 81 #100daysoflidipie babies! Whew, it’s so satisfying to share these square numbers and it’s been ages since 64, mannnn. That’s a lot of hours of heart work right there. I have let go of the idea of finishing all 100 before the show goes up, instead I’m going to give the show a live, evolving component by finishing it while the show is up! ✨ Lidi Pie turns 4 just before it closes, and it seems like a perfect moment to put some extra energy into appreciating the end of the wild and sweet toddler days. She is starting school in September! And I am also feeling, as I did with Joni, a slowing of my sharing about her. I feel like when kids are really small, a lot of what they do is kind of generic, sweet because it is so kind of “mouths of babes” innocent and in that, it ends up functioning to tell us as much about ourselves as it does the child. But as they get older, I think it changes. It becomes more about them as individuals, and my natural inclination is to give them privacy for that. I’m not saying they won’t show up at all, this is my life and they are huge part of it, and the kids are always pretty involved in what I share, I ask their permission and they are usually quite eager to be a part of it (Lidi adores the Lidi Pies, she asks to see and read them all the time). But my sense is that it will gradually become less specific, just like it has with Joni. But you know how it is, whenever things shift, space is made for new things to bloom. ✨ AND in the meantime, follow along while I finish the LAST 19 pieces! Day 76 of #100daysoflidipie. ✨ Alida is almost too big for her “Laufrad” now, the little strider bike she got from her cousins for her 2nd birthday but we’ve put the seat and handlebars up as high as they go, and man, can she fly on that thing! She rides it almost like a tiny stunt bike, balancing on this leg or that, swerving in little S-shapes, and throwing her legs out to the side in almost a split to coast like a bird down the sidewalk. Yesterday, in the middle of her tricks she stopped abruptly and stood curiously with her hands clasped and her eyes closed, whispering to herself. When I asked her what she was doing, her face spread into a great, impish grin, “Dear God,” she said, repeating herself, “please I want to be a bike rider when I grow up. It’s easy to let our perceived age affect our choices. Either we’re so young, we have lots of time, we’ll start later. Or we’re too old to start now. Don’t let your age stop you from starting. I’m case you missed my post from yesterday, next Thursday I will be starting my next 100-day project. (That will be my sixth one!) I will be drawing daily on my iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil because that’s working well for me. I’m going to do 100 days of botanical drawings, with 25 days per season starting with winter. I’m planning to pick a colour palette per season. You’re welcome to join me, it’s more fun to do it with other people. You could join for one of the seasons if 100 days seems like too much. I’m having a hard time uploading to Instagram. I tried turning my iPad off, reinstalling Instagram but nothing is working. So I’m trying to post the photo only rather than the image. My little corner of sketchbooks from 2018 and a little reminder I've made for myself when I started my creative business. It's helped me get through some major doubts and fears and I'm sure it will keep coming in handy. That's why I also turned it into a sticker ( in case you need a lil reminder every now and then). ✨ . . Seeing this stack of sketchbooks also fills me with pride because I remember not just a few years ago when I would longingly see other artists have sketchbooks or produce volumes of works and I wanted to be there so badly. The pivotal change for me was when I decided that I'd be the person that keeps a sketchbook, a person that does art consistently. And I'm now learning that identity based habits are ones that are more likely to stick with us. . If you're planning resolutions and starting out new habits, I want to challenge you to focus on the internal change - what type of person do you want to become? Instead of just the external (read x amount of books, go to the gym etc.) . I'll start - I want to be a reader. I want to be a healthier version of myself in 2019 (physically and mentally).
