Hopefully it’s different for you, but when I went to school, Cross Country got no respect. We’d win meets and not get mentioned in the school announcements. Football however, was in the announcements all the time, win or lose. Tag a teammate if this is what it’s like at your school.

If you’re a Middle Distance runner on track, you’re most likely not putting in the mileage needed for cross country. If you can, run with the team over the summer or run on your own. The focus should be building or rebuilding your base.

Cross Country is a great way to make friends. I don’t know what it is, but runner’s are just awesome. I’ve never met a more supportive group of people. Plus, there’s just something primal about running in a pack. If you’re on the fence about joining XC this Fall, I say go for it! If you’re not running yet, I have a free couch to 5K plan in my bio.
