The best thing an athlete can be is adaptable. It’s something I’ve always struggled with. I’m a “routine” type of person and easily get stressed out by any small change in plans. I would let something small ruin an entire training session. “Well this happened so now I won’t have a good workout”. This type of mentality is toxic. I’ve been working so hard to be adaptable. To let things out of my control happen and adjust to them accordingly. The ability to adapt to something new or unexpected makes me feel capable and strong, both mentally and physically. Not just with my training but also in life. It builds my confidence to address anything that comes my way so I know that whatever happens, I can look at myself and know “I’ve got this”.
