Kost Castle in Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic. It was built in the 14the century on a spit between two small rivers. It was lucky to retain its original gothic looks. According to a legend, the the name comes from an incident that occurred in the 15th century. A Hussite military leader Jan Žižka was so annoyed by the fact that his troops could not capture the castle that he shouted: “This castle is as hard as a bone (‘kost’ in Czech)!” But mind you - this is just one of many legends! One of peculiar things about the castle is the form of the tower which is trapezoidal - it was so constructed as to make it impossible for catapults to inflict heave damage to the walls- cannons just could not hit them with the right angle. The castle was privately owned by various noble families till 1948 when the communist government nationalized but some 45 years later it was returned to the descendants of the last owner - the Kinsky dal Borgo family. Замок был построен в 14м веке на песчаной косе в месте слияния двух ручьев - в принципе, место удачное, к тому же инженерно было все устроено так, что при открытии небольшой плотины территория вокруг замка затапливалась. Еще одной военной хитростью была трапециевидная форма основной башни замка. Это было сделано для того, чтобы ядра пущенные в нее, не могли попасть под правильным углом, а как бы скользили по стенам, тем самым причиняя наименьший урон. Замок сменил нескольких родовитых владельцев, а в 1948 году был национализирован правительством коммунистической Чехии.
