While we take a minute and wait for #mothernature to get her sh!# together, let’s take a minute to celebrate that she chose to go the hot and humid route over ❄️⛄️⛈ - because let’s be honest, those are all viable candidates for early October weather in New England . Anywhoo - let’s pop the cork on some bubbles and enjoy the last bits of summer/fall while we can! Enter Dama del Rovere Durrello Extra Brut Metodo Classico 36 Mesi (whew - say that 3x fast!)... An ancient grape native to the Veneto, Durello is cultivated by less than half a dozen winemaking families today.
Made from grapes planted in 1968, it is a unique bubbly that simply has no peer anywhere. The wine is reminiscent of Champagne, chock-full of flavor and irresistible. Yeasty notes blend with white pepper and apple on the nose; the mouth is dry and lively, with citrus highlights. A great complement to the crisp (or humid, ha!) fall air and the orange-gold rays of sun setting on the last few days of patio season. Read on if you’re a wine geek...

#Damadelrovere sets itself apart from other wineries in the Soave region of the Veneto with its strict yields, vineyards at dizzying altitudes and tangy, nervous white wines that defy appellation standards.
The Pra family owns and works in one of the highest cellars in the entire Veneto, some 1,500 feet above sea level. At this altitude winemaker Massimo Pra works with both conviction and passion and crafts Garganega and Durello wines of great concentration and character.
The family's vineyards are some of the best exposed in the area with fresh clean mountain breezes cooling the grapes. The area's basalt rock is both rich in minerals and compact, so grapes have to work hard for nutrients, pushing even more character into every berry and preserving good minerality as well. A special pruning method employed by Massimo Pra ensures that the family's yields fall below that of other winemakers. All these factors ensure that the fruit is both healthy and ripens slowly.
The family's Durello Brut wines are definitely special.
