“In panoply of ancient kings,
in chain‚d rings he armoured him;
his shining shield was scored with runes to ward all wounds and harm from him.” ~ Tolkien

Armor can mean the difference between life or death on the battlefield. Its lack can leave you a corpse, its presence, a legend. Check out the link in our bio to see our new video on choosing medieval armor!

The Viking age lasted from the late 8th, to the mid 11th century. During this period Scandinavian men would go "viking". Vikings would form in groups and set out on their mythical longships In search of land and treasure.
Every Viking was a warrior, and every warrior needed a weapon with which to intimidate local people, make war, and defend themselves. One of the most common weapons carried by Viking warriors was the battle axe.
Inspired the battle axes forged by viking smiths a millennium ago, I forged this axe.
The Dane axe was a special two handed axe used by the elite shock troops of Viking lords, Anglo-Saxon kings, and the Byzantine emperor's Varangian guard. Despite it's large size the head weight of this axe is only 1.1lbs.
This axe is made from a single piece of specially chosen alloy steel. The head weighs 1.1lbs, and arrives sharp enough to shave the hair off your arm!
This axe is a one-off. That means it's one of a kind, and only available to the one lucky person who's quick enough to snatch it up!
Head Weight 1.1lbs - 497g

A fantastic weapon that has seen battlefields for almost a 1000 years. Extremely balanced and deadly, the 6150 steel takes a keen edge that slices through material effortlessly.
This particular version is based upon one fished out of the Thames and dates back to around 1000 AD.
It is easy to see why this axe was a heavy hitter. The only drawback I found was in the final finishing of the head and haft easily remedied by some elbow grease.
I used the axe to demonstrate the effortless cutting in a standard pattern and a stylized form from other martial arts adding in unique techniques for Dane Axe only.
I highly recommend this Axe!
We can teach you how to use the Dane Axe and other weapons at Warriors of Ash. #viking #vikings #hatchetthrowing #norse #odin #berserker #instavikings #happyhemapeople #historicaleuropeanmartialart #axeville #historicaleuropeanmartialarts #swords #bigaxe #instagram #warriorsofash #the13thscholars #tameshigiri #kultofathena #armsandarmor #shtf #shtfready #tatamicutting #survivalist #hemaalliance #daneaxe #tameshigiricutting #axesofinsta #axesofinstagram #testcutting #daneaxe
Scandinavian axe
The battle axe was one of the most common hand-held weapons used by the Vikings, who used axes widely as both weapons and as tools. The axe was favored as a weapon as it was cheap to produce, yet could make powerful strikes capable of piercing armor. Generally speaking, Viking battle axes had a wrought iron head and a high carbon steel edge and a wooden pole, making them cheap and, unlike a sword, could be made by a village blacksmith with no special skills.
