For the @sfpc_nyc showcase, I also created a book titled “Black Health: A Collection of References to Black People on WebMD”. As I was researching, it stood out that medical/scientific racism has lived on through unfounded and nonscientific stereotypes about Black health. Online media has likely been the most prominent vector for spreading medical narratives that pathologize Blackness. Statements on Black health often overlook the roles that socioeconomic disparities and anti-Blackness play in health outcomes. They position race as the disease. .
.
To explore this topic, I built a web scraper to gather hundreds of sentences containing the keywords “black” or “African” from WebMD, one of the most popular online destinations for medical information. Occurrences of these keywords are also present in the articles that WebMD licenses from Health Day, a company that licenses health-related news to major publications. This book contains a list of the over 1000 sentences that were collected in this process. The list is largely unedited. .
.
You can read this book on Issuu (https://issuu.com/bomanimc/docs/black_health_book). Link in bio! Thanks to @samlavigne for his feedback on how to collect this data and represent it in a piece and to @vivienne.la for helping put the cover into InDesign and for hand-modeling!

So I animated that #julioleparc painting with some fun movement. The beauty of generative art is once you get the parameters down, you can change them programmatically! Here different sine/cosine offsets are used to bring the painting to life. Not gonna lie, that's my favorite part about making this stuff. The original painting had to do with mutation of form, and in this animation the forms are continually mutated to create a larger shifting piece. It's fun to pick one pie to watch, and then step back and watch them all as one cohesive image. As usual, source code is on my GitHub
Short promo of the Vertiginous Data show I’m in at the MMCA in Seoul, Korea ... some nice shots of the work.

In the spirit of @tylerxhobbs I want to share the process of me figuring out how to make generative bugs. I wrote this program for a Code Kitchen group art show using Python in Processing. It was a lot of trial and error over several evenings, but it was lots of fun. I learned about how to clip images to a shape, how to make crazy antennas, and why polar coordinates are best for bug heads. The entymology illustrations from @biodivlibrary were an incredible resource, lots of the illustrations had detailed segmentation of legs which helped quite a bit. The code is on my GitHub in the 'generative_art' repo in the 'buggies' dir.
