A lot of folks think they can’t utilize certain techniques or make a given project because they don’t have all the tools. Well, I say that’s poppycock. All you have to do is be a little clever. Need to resaw some old timbers but your bandsaw isn’t big enough? How about using a circular saw and a reciprocating saw to resaw instead? Sure, maybe it is more time consuming, but as you can see, by the second attempt it was fairly quick and pretty clean. I had to make 8 of these cuts for a one-day table build last week and by the end I was getting very decent results in short order. So don’t let your limitations stop you. Just be clever enough to use what you have on hand to accomplish your goals. Happy Thursday!

Last Friday I sat at the breakfast table with @anneofalltrades and @wilker_dos drinking a cup of coffee and musing about what to do with our last day in Seattle. The conversation went something like this: “What do we want to make today?” “I don’t know. Anne, what do you need.” “A table. Can we build a table in a day?” “I’m not sure but I think we’re gonna find out! I feel challenge coming on...” This is what having maker friends is like we opted to use reclaimed doug fir beams which had been saved from a local demolition (just to make our lives easier) and resawed, milled, and joined these rough timbers in about 12 working hours to create a finished dining table.
