Aloe Vera is a precious plant from nature that has numerous herbal benefits!⠀
Maybe you’ve seen this unique plant on a friend’s window sill, or picked up a bottle of the gel after being out in the sun all day! Aloe Vera is most known for its ability to soothe burns, but this succulent has much more to offer than burn relief. Aloe Vera juice is a trusted ingredient in several of our eczema relief products because it boosts hydration, absorbs quickly, and can protect and heal epithelial tissue, which is a layer of cells in the skin covering the body. It's used in skincare and beauty products for its natural anti-bacterial properties. We are obsessing over all things. #aloevera ⠀

Cherry season starts this month, who’s with us face down in a bowl? The benefits of these delicious beauties are awesome, as they’re full of antioxidants and are proven to help painful inflammatory conditions.
-
The typical Western diet tends to be too high in protein, which can result in high levels of uric acid and elevated markers for inflammation – the cause of swelling, sensitivity, pain and redness involved in the seemingly unrelated conditions we’ve highlighted – asthma, eczema and rosacea.
-
But great news: eating cherries reduces the levels of uric acid in the urine according to a study in the Journal of Nutrition, 2003. In fact, eating 2 servings of sweet cherries led to a 15% reduction of uric acid, and nitric oxide and C-reactive protein levels – which are associated with inflammatory disease.
-
Another study in the same journal 10 years later concluded that eating cherries reduced some biomarkers associated with inflammatory diseases.
-
The powerful anthocyanins and carotenoids (antioxidants) and cell-renewing Vitamin C nourishment from cherries can help to ‘switch off’ damaging inflammatory pathways involved in asthma, eczema and rosacea. If you’re suffering from any of these conditions, cherries are surely a tasty way to help!
-
How to and other helpers:
Eat 1 serving of fresh cherries (about 20) first thing in the morning or 30min-1hr before meals. If you’re dealing with active inflammation, have 2 servings a day.
If you eat a lot of protein, or are under stress, this could be exacerbating your condition, try reducing protein – filling up instead on colourful vegetables and fruit, and try 10 mins of mindful breathing each morning to set yourself up for the day.
@OrganicBurst Acai Berry and Goji Berry are both fantastic sources of antioxidants and a perfect way to boost the effects of fresh cherries. Take 1-2 servings per day or try our Acai Cherry Smoothie Bowl. Go to our wellness hub www.chocandjuice.com and search ‘cherry’.

PALEO VERSUS PLANT BASED
————————————————————
Let me start off by saying, I'm not by any means trying to put down or speak negatively about the Paleo diet. I'm only sharing my experiences while I was eating a paleo diet.
•
If you are like me and have a virus, suffer with eczema, or have a fatty liver then a diet high in fat (no matter what it is called) is not going to support your body in healing. What I have learned is that a diet high in fat puts a ton of strain on the liver.
•
Which wouldn’t be so troublesome if my liver wasn't overburdened with toxins, pesticides, heavy metals, pathogens, & fats. You see the liver can only work on so many issues at a time. Just like many of us who take on too many tasks, after awhile...we get burnt out & our quality of work declines.
•
As you can see in my picture being on a high fat diet like Paleo, had put a ton of strain on my already fatty liver. The extra amount of fat prevented my liver from filtering out other things like pesticides or toxins because it had to work on getting the fat out from every meal. This left excess toxins in my blood resulting in a feeding frenzy for viruses to go crazy, come out of hibernation, get stronger, and attack. This is the very reason I experienced a major eczema flareup after not having one for about 10 years.
•
I had learned about the root cause of my eczema & switched to a diet geared toward killing viruses, getting rid of heavy metals, & one that was low in fat.
•
Since my liver didn’t have to filter out a ton of fat with my daily meals, it has been able to work on flushing out all the stored fats, toxins, and pesticides it collected over the years. As the virus's food supply diminished the viruses slowly began to starve to death. Resulting in healing & symptoms disappearing.
•
Do you suffer with eczema or chronic symptoms that the doctors can’t help you with? If so, have you ever tried lowering your fat intake by half? Or ever took it out completely? I would love to read about your experience...

Thinking about what my skin looked like in the days after Fraxel, all red and rough, which is normal for these types of laser treatments. It got much better within a week or two after the shedding process was complete and my skin was great. But now...the freaking polar vortex has triggered my eczema! My entire face was red and bumpy last night and it’s rough and textured today. I’m so upset. It looks a lot like this pic on the left! Will update you on how I get it under control. #michelleleeskincare
POST 1 OF 3 ⠀
This past week I gathered all my strength and courage and I put myself in front of my own camera to create a special set of self portraits. Today, I am sharing those portraits in order to help raise awareness about a very preventable health condition called Red Skin Syndrome (RSS) AKA Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW).
As some of you know, I struggle with severe eczema. To cope with that eczema, I was prescribed 5 different topical steroid creams and was told to use the creams for 2 weeks at a time, taking breaks between usage. After 6 months of using the creams on and off just as prescribed by my doctor, the creams stopped working. To solve this, my doctor kept prescribing higher potency steroid creams, and each of those creams also eventually stopped working, leaving my skin even worse than before. I was told my only option to "manage" my eczema was to take an immunosuppressant for the rest of my life or live with red, itchy skin forever.
It wasn't until I saw the documentary @preventable_doc created by the amazing @blackvelvetink that I learned what I was actually suffering from: Red Skin Syndrome. RSS is the body's reaction to an addiction to topical steroids, and it reveals itself in the form of red rashes that look almost exactly like eczema (but worse). Because of this, many doctors and patients believe that their RSS is just worsening eczema, when in reality it is a condition CAUSED by the same creams that are supposed to be helping patients.
The only way to recover from RSS is to go through Topical Steroid Withdrawal, which can take anywhere from a few months to 2+ years to fully heal the damaged skin. The recovery is long, painful, and something that no one should ever have to experience. Now I’m 2 months into my TSW, and the only thing that makes me feel better is spreading awareness so I can prevent someone else from having to experience it. PLEASE share this with anyone you know that suffers from eczema or has a loved one that struggles with it, and PLEASE click the link in my profile to watch & share the amazingly informative documentary about RSS and how TSW is exactly what the documentary title states: PREVENTABLE.
