My 4 yr old daughter is now obsessed with writing. Once she saw my laptop sticker she proceeded to write her name too. To her, it's just practicing a newfound skill but when I looked at it, it truly resonated something much deeper for me. I recently read an article on MacRumors about Tim Cook visiting an Apple Store in Orlando to meet 16 yr old Liam Rosenfeld. He is amongst 350 WWDC scholarship winners this year. Cook believes coding education should begin in the early grades of school. With progression of difficulty over somebody's high school years, kids can write apps ready for the App Store. ⠀

I recently launched my licensing program for schools this past week and the timing is just so coincidental. Maybe I'm just noticing stuff like this more because it's top of mind for me. It's little reminders like this that tell me how important coding literacy is...the earlier the better. It definitely uproots the notion of the "4 year degree" to be proficient at coding. Do you think coding literacy is important at a young age?
Throwing it back to last Saturday when my son and I got to hang out with the amazing @laurenhowe and friends from @edtechteam Canada, and explore #CSFirst #coding curriculum at the first ever @madebygoogle #CodingOnChromebook workshop. This @staplescanada location, by the way... love it!
If you’re planning on attending one of today’s sessions in #RichmondHill, let me know! You’re going to love it! (See link in bio for event details.) #toteachermom #teachermomoftwo #torontoteachers #torontoinfluencer #yyzblogger #edtechteam #edtech

Pares' FULL STORY in the BIO LINK!!! Meet 13 year old Pares M @pares_malindi from Johannesburg, South Africa. He's probably one of my youngest students publishing his first app "Dainfern College (DC) Reads" on the first try. His app is now being used across his school of 1200 students to promote reading. An amazing accomplishment by someone so young.
I'm certain that Pares is destined to do more amazing things because of two key reasons:
The first reason, his parents recognized and encouraged coding at an early age. Pares received his first laptop on his 7th birthday. His parents nurtured his talent by enrolling him in coding classes and taking online tutorials during his spare time.
The second reason, his school, Dainfern College implemented iPads for their students and offered courses in higher grades to learn coding basics.
Pares' exposure to technology and coding happened at an early age. He is building a strong foundation to becoming a great iOS developer. He's proof that a four year degree is no longer the only way to become proficient in coding.
Happy Monday CodeCrew! It's the beginning of the week and I'm beyond energized What are your plans this week Love to hear your comments below!

Not sure if you know but I'm from Toronto, Canada and it was a moment of history this weekend because the RAPTORS made their first EVER NBA finals for Game 6 this past Saturday! A moment of full on shock and excitement across my hometown. Dreadfully rainy that day (hello summer) and yet thousands and thousands of people gathered around "Jurassic Park" to be a part of history. Another moment to be a proud Canadian I grew up playing basketball after school in my neighborhood so I'm all sorts of nostalgic and fired up! -

Okkkk now back to the techie stuff!! Lots of stuff going on this week! More #swiftsnacks Doing a podcast interview tomorrow with an awesome guy that I seriously respect and want to meet. Talking with schools as our licensing program gets underway and also getting my courses updated and even better. I'm constantly listening to your feedback and making sure I give my time and attention to you guys! -

I'm in a place now where I'm striking a balance with people who have just heard about me/getting into Swift and those who have followed my content over the years. I'm getting my beginner Swift series refreshed but also going to take some time to roll out new topics. I'm hearing you and mixing it up for you guys! -

I also featured a community member of mine - @stewartlynch Github project last Friday. It's a lesson to add an onboarding/help sequence to your app. I found it particularly "helpful" because it's such a standard feature to include in your app and just gets your development done faster! If you're looking to do something like this, check it out on my YouTube channel!
So much YES. It is absolutely critical that we find ways for the material that we teach to become RELEVANT for our students. It’s not an easy job, but every time we can do it it pays us back 10x over! Shoutout to @kshelton for an amazing session on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy today! #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram #iteachenglish #learnercentered #studentsuccess #iteachhighschool #iteach9th #iteachtoo #lifelonglearning #relevantandfunteaching #edtechteam #edtechchat #weareteachers #genz
Link in my BIO! I'm just three weeks in our school licensing program launch and I can't believe the tremendous response! I've got schools inquiring from US, Canada, Germany, Dubai, Asia and Australia. I'm gonna really try my best and work with these schools to see how my lessons can be used in the classroom - it's honestly a different beast and way different from the online world... I'm excited tho!⠀

This is why I have my business partner here handling the chats and discussions. I'm so happy about the interest thus far and I really hope we're able to make it work!⠀

It took over 10 takes to get this video right. It's way easier when you're filming alone ⠀

I'm excited over the next few weeks. The application process is closing June 14 so time is just gonna fly!⠀
