At my school we are so incredibly blessed to have the most wonderful Education Support Staff. I have been so incredibly lucky to have the gorgeous Kalina join us this year. She is a pre-service teacher and an absolute natural with the kids. Kalina was born to be a teacher and she has spent her holidays making resources for our class and other Prep classes, including this amazing behaviour management book. Such a gem! She has just started her Instagram page so head over to @teaching_with_miss_taylor to follow this lovely lady! This amazing resource is from @especiallyeducation
~ So lately I keep seeing a lot of influencers say that education is not important. They say that your years at university are wasted just because you can't immediately get a job in the field or because the education system is flawed in some ways. They think that just because exams often determine whether or not you get your degree means that going to university is not important. They even say that it's ok to drop out of school sometimes.
But I think that's wrong. Education is important. It does have its flaws.
But...
Times are now changing. For example: not all universities test your skills and knowledge through exams. And you're more likely to get support if you have any issues at both school and university now.
But what's more important is that education in itself is essential. It's the cornerstone of your development from early childhood until adulthood. School teaches you how to count and spell. It teaches you how to cross the road and be careful at parties. It teaches you life lessons right along with boring and probably actually useless trigonometry. It teaches you how to communicate with people. Later on, university not only teaches you your major subject, but it also teaches you responsibility and self-learning. It teaches a lot of students how to live on their own. It teaches all of us independence. And not everyone can get education, so we should appreciate the education we have a chance to have even more.
Furthermore, the people who say that education is not important are often influencers! People often follow them to get advice and inspiration. These influencers have a responsibility to their young followers. If young people start dropping out of school or university, these influencers will probably have some measure of responsibility for those decisions and their frankly irresponsible advice can seriously harm the next generation's future. Because most of their audience will follow it without considering all the possible negative outcomes of this kind of decision. They won't consider the possibility of life not working out for them like it did for their favourite vlogger. They'll risk a huge part of their lives. ~
