First day I had my pump out in front of my kiddos today! It was a big step for me but it was a lot easier to explain than I thought. My llama dress gave me a little confidence boost and I just felt like the day was right to loosen up on my sleeves game. I’ve been very diligent on wearing sleeves and clothes that cover up my diabetes in front of the kids but...why? They were fine about it. ...so, I came home to this tonight. My favorite Wonder Woman—aka @bekah_dua—declared May 16th as “Kevin Dua Day” (literally wrote up a motion), with bag of gummies, a trophy, ribbon, balloons, streamers, and Chinese food. The last few weeks...months...(2 years, really)...has been stressful, exhausting, and at times, defeating, especially while trying to do good as a teacher alongside amazing students within a community. So, to surprisingly see this just now was both needed and beautiful. My wife = 1 in 7+ billion. ❤️

Yesterday I flew to my new school (@ronclarkacademy) to meet my new 4th grade students and their parents. It’s a tradition that if you are new to the school, you have to dance down the red carpet! - I know I need new dance moves, but the energy in the building was ELECTRIC! Today the Heartbeats girls continued our study of wudu. I used paint water and glitter to do a demonstration which emphasized the areas of the body that need to get wet during wudu. The glitter also related to the Hadith of the prophet (s): “The parts of Muslim’s bodies washed by Wudu will shine on the day of judgement...” . .
