At culinary school, I learned to cook professionally, following complicated and meticulous recipes and methods in the Escoffier tradition.
The Escoffier tradition is named after Auguste Escoffier, an early 20th-century culinary pioneer. He was the man who made cooking a respected profession, due to his recipes, techniques and approaches to kitchen management. He was dubbed, "king of chefs and chef of kings". It's been 11 days and 16 hours and 59 minutes since my father died. It feels like 2 minutes. The gut punches of grief wave through like a stormy sea. It is getting easier to smile again.
I miss him, his wit, his charm and his bellowing voice. It's just so darn quiet now.
They say so many things about Life and Lemons. But they probably didn't really even know how much my Daddy loved his lemons and his lemon tree. Eureka Lemons can be ENORMOUS. They are juicy and filled with pulpy goodness. Great for Ade or Curd, Pies and Vodka. I will forever enjoy them and make any manner of delicious and I will think of him with a smile.
I'm still waiting for the waves of grief to slow between sets. I'm ready to be happier.
Every time I pick a lemon, I do so with #gratitude. For all he taught me, gave me, shared with me. For the love of the sour. For the love.
Self-care is important and I shall endeavor to get better at it. Practice makes perfect.

Would be great if we all could find some happy inside the sour. I love Lemon Curd. I could seriously eat it straight or on any number of treats (including toast)it is so simple to make, store and enjoy I really should make it all the time - whatever am I posting about curd? Well because I ran out!!! I realized too late (toast was ready) so I grabbed several huge lemons from the tree and twenty minutes later I’m in curd heaven again! .
