Have you got any Irish adventures planned this weekend? Anyone gunna go against TLC and deffo chase some waterfalls
.
.
Some may say that Ireland's Beauty Begins Beneath its Surface. This 50ft waterfall is hidden in an obscure corner along Donegal’s coast. The cave is bathed in soft light & flowing from the lands above through a massive hole in the cave roof is this waterfall! Over millions of years this flowing water has eroded the boulders below into almost circular shapes of every natural colour imaginable
.
.
Apparently this location is secret, so if you find it, let us know - we've heard the locals in the area might be able to give you a hint. So save this post and get hunting! AND to savour the beauty of this place, remember to leave it the way you found it #EcoFriendly #EthicalTourism .

Another discussion today, as recent ones made me wonder about something else. I’m actually writing a huge blog post about it that I’ll publish later tonight and will share on Stories
It’s undeniable and most of you agreed, that we’re undoubtedly privileged to be able to travel and therefore we should respect local culture.
While many are quick to claim that tourism helps local communities no matter what, is it always the case...? So many people think that they’re always helping locals in a way by going to less privileged countries, yet, staying at new western hotel chains.
As tourists we just want to enjoy ourselves and comfort is surely a priority for many. It’s easy to book an all-inclusive package holiday or even a fancy hotel, and go relax. Don’t get me wrong, I like fancy hotels and especially when I was younger I didn’t think much of it and also - didn’t know the truth about it.
It’s important to keep something in mind: there’s a difference between a fancy hotel in Western Europe and a developing country where people live in poverty (poverty defined by 50%+ people living on under $1 per day).
For every $100 spent on tour/resort in a developing country only $5 actually stays in the country’s economy. Only $5!
Let’s think about it next time we want to book a beach resort vacation in The Gambia or India (among others).
I’m not saying don’t do it, but keep in mind that your money won’t help the locals.
⚖️
Another example is Thailand where 70% of money spent by tourists ends up leaving the country because of foreign investments.
While we can all do something by staying locally even half of the time, at least let’s be respectful to locals. Thoughts and comments are always welcome! —-
P.S. It was hard to choose a photo to this caption as it’s an uneasy topic especially as instagram pushes glamorous photos up, so here’s a local farm in Hawaii that dedicates its profits to send people who work there to college, as otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to afford it
Relax it’s the weekend!
We hope all our friends and supporters have an awesome weekend, relaxing like the herd at Karen Elephant Experience!

Some of the usual faces you'll see during your adventures around Ireland .
.
Despite many sheep being kept as livestock, they also have a crucial role in nature. In Ireland, they've assisted with the creation of our beautiful landscapes but also... .
.
Sheep support wildlife and plant biodiversity. Without sheep our grassland, and upland in particular, would become overtaken by scrub and coarse vegetation, becoming less valuable to many types of plants, small mammals and ground nesting birds, and at risk of environmental damage by wildfires .
.
So please stay mindful of all the lovely animals and wildlife you come across during your trips here in Ireland. Look after their homes by leaving things the way you found it. You can even take a rubbish bag with you to pick up rubbish you see + anything that might be harmful. All animals play a vital role in our survival as humans, so we must take care of them #EthicalTourism #EthicalAnimalTourism #ResponsibleTravel .

Here in Haven, every elephant is special. But Somboon, the pregnant elephant is extraordinary. She is very friendly and open, but unfortunately, she is not accepted by the mother of the herd. This is what is sometimes happens and usually takes time to set who is in charge of the herd. But this time we have to protect Somboon as every fight could be dangerous for her baby. That's why she still can't join the herd, and she can't benefit from the healing power of the herd. But we let her enjoy freedom as much as possible and safe. And as you can see - she knows how to use it. Some people used to say dirty kids are happy kids. We can say the muddy elephants are the happy ones! It's incredible how well Somboon knows how to use mud and then - thanks to the tree- spread it on the whole body. And this is the proper treatment for the skin!

From the dirt to the table ✨
Turmeric- this plants better than gold in our opinion, at least you can eat it
This plant has been used for hundreds of years for its medicinal properties. Western medicine is just starting to pick up on and study its healing effects.
Easy to grow here in the tropics, we have this spread throughout the farm. Come learn more about this powerful plant and how to incorporate it into your systems in our annual Permaculture Design Course in April 2020. Or learn how to transform this into tinctures, chews and more in our popular Plants as Medicine course with @chocolateismedicine in May. Do you remember me? My name is Sri Nuan; I was the sick elephant that walked the 'Long Walk to Freedom’ with Somboon just over a month ago.
I sometimes need a little bit of extra care and love and am learning how to trust people again. I worked in the tourism trade every day for almost 30 years, I'm nearly 50 years old now!
I’m a little bit grumpy with the other elephants at the moment, but am trying my best. Today, Khun Meaw (the founder of Samui Elephant Haven) let me out by myself! I loved it! It is great being able to be play and explore.
You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.
