I N N E R C O M P A S S I O N ❣️ Today’s topic of discussion was on (the science of) compassion to oneself. Something that often triggers resistance in people. It’s being judged as “a practice of the softies’, mistaken as self-indulgent and so on... But inner compassion is about how we respond to your our own suffering. How do we act when we are in pain, fear, grieve, in moments of numbness or self sabotage? Instead of a weakness, inner compassion is a powerful factor for emotional resiliency. It’s an authentic inner support. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Research showed that veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan were more likely to develop post traumatic stress disorder when they were low in self compassion compared with those who were high in inner compassion. They even discovered that self compassion is a more powerful predictor for change of development of ptsd then severely combat experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You could have experienced or done terrible traumatic things but when you are self compassionate you are less likely to develop ptsd. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So in our day to day lives when we meet our suffering with love and kindness the rainbow of compassion arise. Did you know that every item a manufacturer sends to a retailer is usually individually packed in plastic?
