Highway 49 is the birthplace of California’s ‘Golden State’ nickname + we are travelling this historic route discovering all it has to offer. ✨ Discovery of gold in 1848 lead to a mass migration of 300,000 pioneers heading west…so it is rich with history. “The almost nailed it shot!” So the other day I’m driving down the road and decide to stop and take some pics of this cool grassy pine forest. The light was incredible as it poured in combined with the sparkling wet sheen of the vegetation from a recent rain shower. As I was bagging one epic shot after the next through my telephoto and using my tripod due to a low shutter and high f-stop for better depth of field, these 2 deer just appeared out of nowhere. So I knew I had to quickly change settings and reposition as stealthy as possible. Unfortunately they only posed for just long enough for me to get one shot before they ran away! I looked down at my screen in total excitement thinking I nailed the shot only to discover disappointingly that my shutter speed was still set at 1/10 of a second where I had it last set! Doh!! Totally forgot to bump up my shutter speed! The image may look sharp on IG, but when zoomed in you can see the obvious motion blur! I’m posting this to serve as a reminder for myself and others how fast conditions can change and how important it is to practice changing those camera settings on the fly.
