Good morning from Hall’s Chestnut Orchard! Not far from the quaint little town of Beechworth, Victoria is a place called Stanley. Here we chased sunrise (epic fail ), tried to round up geese (epic fail ) and met lots of doggies (epic success! ) Having visited @seehighcountry once before I thought I knew most of the region, but there is so much more to discover! It’s one of those places I’m sure everyone finds them self thinking...”I want to live here!” I know I must have said it at least a million times!! (sorry to those who dislike extreme exaggerations, it was more like about 50 times ) #seehighcountry
I’m glad I forgot to get petrol on the way home and had to duck up to Beechworth. Lake Sambell was looking quite serene the other evening. A lovely little lake in a beautiful historic town. It had been full of people canoeing, swimming and fishing earlier. #seehighcountry #exploreindigo #lakelife #sunset #beechworth
If you have never found Murmungee Lookout... it's worth tracking down. Located in the Stanley State Forest, 8km south of Beechworth, it's a spectacular spot for a picnic. You'll find panoramic views of the Ovens and King Rivers flood plains and the breathtaking sight of Mount Buffalo before you. It's also an ideal location to watch the sunset. by @campbellmattinson #seehighcountry #visitwangaratta #exploreindigo #murmungee #beechworth #views #yourhappyspace
Moved to the country but definitely not eating a lot of peaches... it's more about nuts and berries in this part of the world. I don't really like peaches anyway. I've always been taught to not eat fuzzy fruit (because mould) but I'm supposed to make an exception for peaches? Nope. Fang me a nectarine any day. Little miss and I have been walking most mornings since we moved here last week. Well I walk... she's pretty lazy TBH. Why do I look so smug? Well, you can't see it but the band of my hat is chock full of gorgeous bird feathers I found in my own backyard. That's next level wholesome fuckery. Wearing @bamboobodyau (can totally pop a boob out the top and breastfeed in it!), Zhai bamboo wrap cardigan, @funkis clogs, @akubraofficial hat (seriously best thing I've ever bought - it's basically glued to my head) and @mobywrap for the wee one. Does anyone else think peaches shouldn't be fuzzy? They're delicious but also gross. I just feel like it's a really big design flaw, no different to them being spiky or slimy... you know what I mean?
Vintage 2019 is away! First in the house, as usual, is our Old Vine Shiraz from Dulcies vineyard in Glenrowan, planted in 1890.
These old girls don’t mess around, many a jaw has hit the floor upon hearing we are harvesting Shiraz at this time of the year. The fact these vines are dry land, the site and the style of wine we strive to produce all contribute to the early picking. The upside, we have a whole winery and all the time in the world to give these amazing grapes the attention they deserve.
P.S. The 2016 Perseverance Shiraz, made from these grapes is drinking incredibly well at the moment. It could just be the best wine we have made to date. Only 40 dozen left!
