Forget San Francisco, I left my heart in Spokane.

P.S. Layover tip! Go to Clinkerdagger. Order the huckleberry lemonade. Add tequila.
*
P.P.S. Can you keep marmots as pets?! Asking for a friend.

Listen to the way places speak to you.
Some places will tell you to turn around as you approach them, go back the way you came, your heart won’t find what it’s looking for here. Those are typically the conversations I have with the city. While beautiful in its own way, I’ve found its best for me to just thank them for their time and move on.
But some places speak more loudly than others. Some places, like this river I stumbled upon by accident, surround you with warmth as you come closer. The evening light shines just for you, the forest grows quieter as if it knows how much you need the silence, and the water flirts with you saying, “please stay. you don’t have to go. you don’t have to be anywhere but right here.” I’ve found it impossible to ignore an invitation like that. So I listen. I stay.
We did 4th of July a little differently this year and headed into the mountains to quietly disconnect and unwind. No fireworks, no partying, just some solid uphill hiking with heavy backpacks and quiet mountain breezes. A few hours after we got to our campsite, I pointed at a ridge above the lake and asked Michael if he wanted to hike up to see what we could see. With sore legs we headed up and this was one of the shots he got of me once we were at the top. Soft evening light and surrounded by rocky peaks (not pictured, a massive alpine lake below us). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope everyone had a relaxing, fun 4th of July weekend!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What is the most jaw dropping waterfall you’ve experienced during your travels? Feat. galavanter @alison.linh .
Me personally? It’s not the most well known or frequented waterfall, but when I visited @sequoiakingscanyon a few weeks back Grizzly Falls was definitely roaring with Sierra snow melt. Absolutely majestic. ✨

I could write about how much I loved watching the stars move across the sky all night and the “instagrammable” life in the backcountry, but I’ll be honest. I threw on my base layer, down jacket, rain jacket, beanie, and gloves, ran outside my tent and down the trail and posted up to get this shot next to this part of the stream. After I was done, I ran back to my tent, and went right back to sleep. That’s usually what happens, but the cold nights are definitely worth it to wake up in the morning to beautiful alpine scenery. ———————————————
Interested in learning how to capture images like this one? Join me later this summer on the Southern Oregon Coast for my photography workshop. We’ll be shooting sunrises, sunsets, and a special emphasis on Milky Way. The last day of the workshop will conclude with a 6 hour processing session where you’ll learn how to take images from RAW files to finished pieces of art!
