A mother's love
Mothers gathered last week in a show of solidarity with Hong Kong’s young protesters, pleading their lives must be treasured.
An estimated 8,000 mums attend rally in Chater Garden in Central, hoping youth will control their emotions and calling on government to listen.
They expressed fears for the safety of their children following the storming of the city’s legislature by mostly young protesters on Monday, stressing that their lives must be treasured.
They expressed hope that youngsters would control their emotions but also urged the government to stop being “arrogant” and listen to their demands.

Hey Hong Kong, @CBSNews is back! Missed you! 22 years ago, right before the 1997 handover, I landed in this city (and at the cool old Kai Tak airport) for the first time to witness history and I’ve loved it ever since. Say hello if you see us in the march July 1st. We’re ready if tear gas hits this time. Thanks again for your kindness last time. And please, please, please don’t be shy about us or any media asking you for an interview. Remember: if you don’t share your story, then the U.S. and the world may never know what’s happening in Hong Kong. It’s up to you. .

What Hong Kong's July 1 march looks like from above.⠀
⠀
Marchers mostly dressed in black were out in full force for the city's annual march, as violence earlier at the Legislative Council marred the 22nd anniversary of the city’s return to China, with protesters smashing the building's glass doors. ⠀

"Free Hong Kong, democracy now"
"Release the martrys"
These were the chants of Hong Kong protesters who turned out on June 26. Hundreds besieged the Hong Kong police headquarters again into the wee hours, the second time in a week, over the now-suspended extradition bill.
Thousands were part of a peaceful rally at Edinburgh Place in the Central business district. Earlier in the day, an estimated 10,000 gathered peacefully in the heart of the financial district.

We got tear gassed in Hong Kong. It burned. This city’s police chief actually said, “We have to use force.” And they did. Watch the tensions flare in our newest @cbseveningnews piece now in my bio. The violence between protestors and police is all about a Beijing-backed - and controversial - extradition bill. In addition to local Hong Kongers, foreigners - and yes that means Americans too - could be extradited to mainland China if you were deemed to run afoul of certain laws. Our awesome cameraman @cbs_randy grabbed this still from the video even though all of our eyes were stinging. These super kind protestors helped douse the burn. Very grateful. @CBSNews is here.
