This wall of moss is a section of uprooted tree roots and soil. The entire trunk (the part I’m standing on) was covered in moss too. The tree fell, it sort of failed it’s expected job. But I thought it was the most wonderful thing in that forest. It was the greatest thing there. . The book I’m writing has gone through its own weird cycle. The first spark was probably when I first made up a few of these characters when I was 14. That story line doesn’t remotely exist in this book, but this book also wouldn’t have happened without those first teenaged attempts at characters. Really only one character survived all those years to end up in this project. Really it’s just the name that survived. But he’s there, and so are another two or three I made up when I was 16. If we’re sticking with the overdone tree metaphor, that novella thing twelve years ago was my acorn. . My tree fell over who knows how many times. I abandoned this project and restarted many times over, trying to sink roots back into the ground and stand it back up. But you can’t do that. Or I’m not a knowledgable enough botanist/writer for that. Or it just wasn’t the process I needed. . At some point in January 2017 I read a book that I loved so hard I was reminded why I wanted to ever write in the first place. Then I found my fallen tree and I’ve been mossing it up ever sense. I love it more than anything else I’ve ever worked on. I’m hoping someday some strangers will read it and love it too. . Two years later and a lot of learning about plot and pacing and character arcs later, I only have a handful of sequences left to write before this draft is done. It’s surreal. Then I’ll be onto editing. I can’t think of a lame tree metaphor for that, so I’ll leave it here. #FantasyFebruaryChallenge Day 4: Things that inspire you I'm a very visual person, so I need to have pinterest boards, old maps, inspirational photos and these "inspo cards" that I've made from artwork found on the internet (I can't remember the artists right now but if you're interested I'll dig them up ). Before writing a scene I always try to see it play out inside my brain like a movie, and then I can just type it out. Are you more inspired by visuals, sound or beautiful words? ✒️

Sooo The Children of Lyr series is chock full of them, and I’m so excited to talk about it. . As I’ve mentioned before, the series is based in Welsh Mythology. While the world of the Deyrnas is its own world separate from ours, the people worship several gods of the Welsh pantheon. Namely, the people of Porthladd worship the sea god Lyr, and that’s the god that blessed Keira with her gifts. Keira’s family is also named for the goddess Branwen, the daughter of Lyr, who is considered the goddess of love. . TCoL series also plays with the Welsh myth of the Otherworld and the dark god Arawn, the legend of the Morrigan, the women of the Annwn, the wheel of fate, and mayybeee some Celtic werewolves, water horses, and sirens. Hello #fantasywipfebruary friends! ✨✨ I’m soooo excited about today’s prompt, and the Harry Potter nerd in me is dying to know: what Hogwarts house is your MC? . Keira is a true slytherin: cunning, ambitious, will do whatever is necessary to achieve her goals, even if it’s not the right thing to do. She is loyal to the core, but her loyalty is selective to her family and those she trusts most. And it takes a looooot of time to earn her trust. Plus, while she does try to conduct herself with honor and the morals her father instilled in her, she is very calculating and cunning, and loves finding a good loophole in the rules. so slytherin it is, even though it’s Ronan she calls the snake .
