The Exchange Bank Building in downtown Farmington was designed by master builder Augustus Gauger in 1880 with Italianate and Richardson Romanesque architectural details. This red brick beauty was designed to stand out prominently in the area after the devastating 1879 fire which destroyed most of downtown.
It housed the Farmington Bank, post office, and a large community hall upstairs, as well as a a saloon, billiard parlor, and cafe.

In the middle of downtown Farmington sits Church of the Advent. It was built in 1872 in the Gothic Revival style, at the suggestion of Bishop Henry Benjamin Whipple, and constructed according to plans found in Richard Upjohn's 1852 book titled "Upjohn's Rural Architecture". The exterior is also called Carpenter Gothic, and stands out with its red doors, trefoil window, and small belfry. The inside is much like it was when built with its scissor beam rafter construction and beautiful wood walls. The pews are original (designed according to the architecture book) and the bell is the first-ever in Farmington and was made in the same foundry as the Liberty Bell.
