The WWW insta has been a little quiet this weekend... it was the annual @lakelandmm & fellow WWW @janieoates and myself (@sarah_gerrish) decided to go give it a go!! It was Janies 2nd Mountain Marathon & my first!!! Wow what a weekend!!! We went in ambitious opting for the Kirkfell class - second hardest!!!! It was certainly a test of endurance out there, particularly in the heat, but we loved taking ourselves around the Howgills & exploring relatively unknown ground (to us!). Like all good challenges there were things to be learnt: 1. It’s unnecessary to carry around a whole tube of toothpaste for one weekend! Seasoned MM competitors are obsessed with how much weight they are carrying in their bag. I now understand why! 2. Butt cheeks can chaff against each other! 3. Always plan for midges. Those little buggers are everywhere! 4. Dehydration meals are actually extremely tasty! 5. Good chats with great people can take your mind off of all kinds of dark ‘I’m knackered’ thoughts. 6. Not all members of the public appreciate runner have a wild wee near them. 7. Mark / identify your checkpoints, then check them again. 8. Never assume the team in front are going where you want to be! 9. People who enjoy the outdoors are awesome and love to share their experience with you. Don’t be shy. Chat! 10. You’ll sleep better in a tent after 24miles, 4,000ft ascent, a belly full of food and a G&T to finish it off! We were super chuffed to finish 2nd female team for our class & bagged a sought after SLMM shot glass ... the 1st female team won the OVERALL... which meant we got the 1st female prize. Bit sneaky but not complaining!!! HUGE WELL DONE to Megan Wilson & Chloe Haines of @dpfellrunners for the win!!!
