Hematite with Rutile and Rock Crystal 40mm x 32mm x 31mm Cavardi Gorge, Curnera Valley, Tujetsch, Vorderrhein Valley, Grischun, Switzerland •• Been a while but I’m partially back! Here is a great little hematite specimen from Cavardi which is famous for quality specimens of the same from the Alps. Hematite is an Iron mineral and most specimens from Alpine clefts show oxidation and but this specimen has mirror luster which makes it stand out among others. The special indicator for this locality are the dark red inter-grown rutile crystals on the Hematite. Another special feature on this crystal is the iridescence on the Hematite which is quite pronounced and not so common on hematite crystals. The last factor which attracted me to this piece is the cute little rock crystal on the top which again, is a less common combination. Such a small specimen from that locality with three minerals is a treat! The rock crystal is so clear you can see the Hematite through it. This specimen was featured prominently in a book about Cavardi by Dosi Venzin, Christian Hager and Patrick Reith, three of the best Strahlers from the area. Who has some good Hematite to share ?

Adamite 41mm x 34mm x 24mm Ojuela Mine, Mapimi, Mun. De Mapimi, Durango, Mexico ••• Time for a bit of yellow. This piece is quite exceptional in size for Adamite, at 4cm it is quite the Giant. The intense yellow is also rarer as most pieces are pale in comparison. For pinwheel adamite is has super quality indicators the only think it does not have going for it is that it could have been a complete pinwheel in circular arrangement, but im not sure one of those exista in size? However it makes up sitting on this limonite matrix which gives great contrast to the piece. I would also comment on the amazing luster which is not always the case. Mexico sure has some amazing mineralogical miracles that came from underground ♠️
