Rest days and cheat meals are extremely important when trying to change your body composition. Intense training puts a lot of stress on your body. Resistance training breaks down the muscles, and cardio demands the heart and lungs to work overtime. It's important to give your body adequate rest in order to repair and recover. Remember, your body develops when at rest, not when you're working out. Let your body recover so you can come back even stronger and better!

Cheat meals are also important when trying to make those gains. I advise my clients to consume a cheat meal once or twice a week. Your body will get used to a low calorie diet over time and will actually readjust its energy consumption in order to access these calories. This results in the loss of muscle as your body feeds on it for energy. The longer your body is in a caloric deficit(more calories burned than consumed), the slower your metabolism will become. This makes it very difficult to lose fat! Some of my clients worry that cheat meals will set them back. This is simply not true. Just remember that it will actually reset your metabolism, which is exactly what you want in order to burn fat! Keep in mind that one cheat meal a week isn't going to undo all the good meals you've had, just like one healthy meal won't magically undo all the bad meals you've had.
