A spectacularly preserved soft-shelled turtle for #FossilFriday.✨⚒ Wyoming's Green River Formation contains sediments from one of the world's longest-lived great lake systems, and these rich deposits provide the best record ever discovered of an entire ecosystem, frozen in time 50 million years ago. Hundreds of species have been unearthed, and their lifelike poses help us understand more about these animals' life stages, feeding habits, and interactions. See these ancient fossil friends in our Evolving Planet exhibition. #FieldMuseum #NaturalHistory #NaturalHistoryMuseum #fossils #GreenRiverFormation #FossilLake #Wyoming #turtle

This is Beth-Ann (@ab.ba89). She’s a dinosaur and fossil lover who lives in Drumheller, Alberta Canada, with her beau Matt, their dogs, and ferret. When we announced that we were going to be visiting the @royaltyrrell museum, she reached out and offered suggestions about where to eat and what to do. The four of us ended up meeting in person, and she even bought us a milkshake. Talk about Canadian hospitality! We just wanted to acknowledge Beth-Ann and Matt since they are great examples of the dinosaur community. Swipe through the pics to see her holding a REAL T. rex vert, sharing some of her local finds, posing in front of the Tyrrell’s best spots, and showcasing her Dino tattoos. Show her some Dino love and give her a follow!
The Chinese trilobite Damesella. These Late Cambrian (500 million years old) Lichid trilobites are beautiful in their sweeping shape, texture and of course the variety of reds, browns, and in this case, deep orange colors. The colors are natural, caused by various minerals and oxidation states. This is the best one I’ve found and personally prepared. #marinebiology #paleontology #evolutionarybiology #geology #minerals #mineralogy #color #trilobite #trilobites #fossil #fossils #china
Having a broken heart really isn't that hard ... when it's got an ammonite in the center! Haha! I crafted this heart ❤ shaped 'popping stone' from a piece of nodule I spotted on a beach on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset UK

Another discovery clip from last trip. This is a Columbian Mammoth molar I found sitting on a sandy section of river bottom. In North America during the ice age the Wooly Mammoth roamed north of North America while the Columbian Mammoth ranged more south in present day United States to as far south as Costa Rica. It had long, curved tusks and four molars, which were replaced six times during the lifetime of an individual. When their teeth wore down they were replaced and a chunk would be spit out. They were capable of replacing their teeth 6 times during their life. Today we find their spit teeth and whole teeth like this fossilized. The closest living relative of the Columbian and other mammoths is the Asian elephant. For a few thousand years prior to their extinction, Columbian mammoths coexisted in North America with early humans who hunted them for food, used their bones for making tools, and depicted them in ancient art.
