The Big Red Bus . My last holiday craft before we head back to Oz! It’s been surreal being away for 3 months but it’s now drawing to an end. We’ve had an amazing time spent with family and friends and so many new memories to take home with us. ❤️ . I made our double decker bus out of egg cartons and acrylic paint and hot glue gun. I cut out parts of the egg cartons for windows and the top deck open to put our @joguines_grapat nins in. . I loved the original movie when it first came out many years ago and I got very excited that I wanted to craft with the little man to join in the fun! Combining it with tp/cardboard roll week over at @get.creative.with I immediately thought of Slinky Dog! I wasn’t quit sure it would work but somehow it did. I pre cut the cardboard rolls, used part of an egg carton for Slinky’s nose and cardboard for his legs. Little man did most of the painting and I glued the pieces together. I hit a little bit of a bump when I realised that Slinky’s head was a bit too heavy but with a little repositioning of his head and the help of his slinky body, he’s staying upright! Hooray! . // NEGATIVE POTATO PRINTS // ————————————————————————- What came from playing with cookie and sugar paste cutters and potato slices turned into a lovely activity of colourful printing. Potatoes + Cookie Cutters = Lots of Fun ————————————————————————- What you'll need: A potato, cut into slices Cookie and/or sugar paste cutters (smaller than the potato slices) Watercolour inks (you could use food colouring instead) Small paintbrushes Paper Washing up station: bowl of soapy water and a towel near by. What to do: Slice a potato. Cut out shapes from the middle using cookie or sugar paste cutters. Have fun painting the slices and shapes with watercolour inks and paintbrushes. Watch the inks disperse on the potato surface: they make beautiful patterns. Get some paper and start printing! The boy and girl whiled away an hour or so in the shade in the garden doing this today. ONIONS!!! ⚪️ . Ok, is it weird that we did a lesson on onions and garlic and all bulb vegetables? Absolutely not. We cook with them almost daily, they’re tasty and awesome vegetables, they have mega health properties/benefits, and we love unique lessons! These are actually incredibly easy to make. We made ours with origami paper, but you can make it with probably any type of paper. You just fold and cut your flower, kind of like you would a paper snowflake, fold in the petals around a somewhat large base, then either send to a friend or plop in a dish of water and watch them bloom! She picked the project out from Usborne’s 365 Science Activities. When the paper absorbs the water, it makes the fibers in the paper swell. At the points where the paper is folded, the fibers are squished to make the crease, but when water swells the fibers, it straightens them out, resulting in the paper unfolding!
