days off work ♀️ and it’s fair to say I’m pretty pumped about it! It’s not that I don’t love sharing with you guys, but when @jhhackett asked me if I was going to schedule social stuff, I realised that if I did I’d miss the opportunity to share with you the value of disconnecting from your phoneyes, that means no posts, no food updates, no morning 3 for a whole week and that’s a good thing ☺️ I’ve listed 10 reasons why it’s good to disconnect ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
1. You force yourself to live in the present!
2. You learn to appreciate what you have instead of wanting what others have.
3. You can ENJOY your comfortable little bubble you’ve made for yourself that you otherwise missed.
4. You can properly whole heartedly invest your time and energy in close relationships.
5. You use less data
6. You can break the addiction to instant gratification.
7. You pay attention!
8. You magically find MORE TIME in the day!
9. You give your eyes, thumbs and neck a rest.
10. You have a chance to re assess your values without all the “interference” polluting your mind

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I admit it, some mornings I reach for my phone to turn off my alarm and then before I know it it’s been 10 minutes of just scrolling through the news and social media (ok... maybe 20 minutes). More often than not it was auto-pilot that took me there. Not conscious choice. I try to make an effort most mornings to leave my phone alone until I’ve got myself ready for the day. Giving my brain time to wake up and make its own connections about what my day is going to be like!

On the days where I’m feeling distracted and on auto-pilot I feel it in my practice. There’s a heaviness, a lack of coordination, and an underlying level of frustration with myself. On days where my focus is gratitude and being really conscious with my decisions, my practice reflects this as well. Poses feel light, breath comes easily, and my reactions lack judgement.

Reset
Every time you find yourself wandering from your vision.
I have to do it multiple times a day sometimes.
Mind training. Attention training. Focus. Balance.
My favorite reset is to return to breath. It oxygenates your brain, balances the hemispheres, soothes your nervous system and delivers you into the lap of presence.
Here’s one I love {+ and it’s one of the featured practices in my @insight 10 day guided meditation course}
ॐ Nadi Shodhana // alternate nostril breathing ॐ
Use your hand as shown in the photos, ring finger and thumb take turns gentling directing the flow of breath, alternating between sides.
Index & middle finger tapping third eye + connect that to your heart.
Right nostril ↠ masculine, doing, taking action
Left nostril ↠ feminine, receptive, calming
Pick a side to start on that aligns with what you need to create balance. Exhale out that side fully, then breathe in. At the peek of the inhale, switch nostrils and exhale, then inhale through that same nostril.
Always changing nostrils between the inhale and the exhale.
Each time you exhale on the side you started on, that’s one round.
Do 3-9 rounds any time you find yourself needing to focus and reset.
It’s a miracle worker.
A couple days ago, @marybethlarue asked how we get our practice in.
Since becoming a mama, more often my practice comes in short bursts. After years of practice, I understand what works and when to apply it. So I look into my tool kit like some people look into a medicine cabinet. Only taking what I need ;-) 10-15 min of here, 15-20 min there. An hour practice once a week uninterrupted feels indulgent & luxurious. But I always get something in everyday.
Meditation HAS to happen for me or I get rocked off center too easily. Even if it’s just 10 minutes.
Yoga Nidra happens on 97% of my days, many times at the end of my day once everyone’s quiet and sleeping.
