I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be the best version of myself, every single day. Shouldn’t we always be pushing ourselves to our full capabilities? I think that our ‘best self’ changes with the days as they come though- because sometimes that means showing up for others while you put an agenda on the back burner, or taking care of yourself in a gentler way. Not shitting on yourself for not doing 10 million things a day. . . I don’t think this should be an excuse for being lazy, but we should be our own best friends! Treat ourselves the way a friend would- push when necessary, but also comfort when needed. . . We are capable of so much. So maybe today I won’t go on that 7am beach run- but I can save it for tomorrow. You know that moment when you can *feel* new doors opening? ... Doors that you 'just know' you need to walk through... doors that lead to new adventures with greater levels of learning and bigger places than you ever thought possible? Ya... those doors are opening right now, and it's exciting and humbling and so God given it's making me physically just sit in awe and be. So many things are lining up in a way that could only be from Him. But... with all that said, these new doors close several chapters of my life. They take me in a new direction... and in a way, it almost makes me question everything. Fear could easily hold me back. It could tell me I'm not good enough to do it... it could leave me frozen... scared to move... afraid to take that first step. But... it's all on how you look at it. If I don't leap right now, all these doors may go away, leaving me to wonder about them forever. You know when you need to grow... you just do. You know when you're at a crossing point... when you're ready for a new level... and when you know that, you have to walk through those new doors. They're there for a reason. VORTEX It's easy in today's Internet crazed world to get sucked into the same brain as everyone else. It feels like we're all talking, seeing, listening to the same thing through these screens of mass media. I often think that the government created the Internet to make us all think alike so we can be more easily controlled. I go back to the time before the Internet, iPads, cell phones, etc. It actually doesn't even feel like that long ago that I was making calls on the pay phone on my corner block in NYC & scheduling exact meeting times & locations to meet up with my friends. The times, when you HAD TO show up cause there was no way of getting a hold of them to tell them you weren't gonna make it. That's when responsibility was upheld by your word of honor. I miss those days. Even though I'm obviously an active social media player, I do often think while I'm posting or scanning through IG, "What the Fck am I doing? Is this living? Am I wasting time? Am I being brainwashed? I'm sure at some point, these questions have crossed your mind too. I could write a whole novel just on those questions. But what I'm often concerned about is, is all our obsessive sharing depleting us of our uniqueness & originality? Its the inevitable process, we all start becoming inspired by each other, which turns into emulating with admiration, which turns into all of us doing, thinking, being, moving quite similar. What I loved most about traveling (before the Internet) was when I met people from far away, they had such a different thinking process than I. It was clear we had been exposed to very different influences. I love & thrive from those differences. Now a days, it seems no matter where in the world you live, we all share the same trends that we see online. One brainwashed mind? I often think it takes away from what makes us so beYOUtifully unique.
