For the month of July I’ve been doing a bunch of tutorials that I’ve had saved up for ages! I almost never draw people anymore so I decided to do one on painting skin! How’d I do? I picked this reference because i loved the lighting and the messy hair. She looks like she was just reading and someone said something weird so she looked up. .

Thanks @randomhouse #partner for my copy of The Surfside Sisters! .

There is just something so appealing to me about books set in Nantucket, every summer I look forward to reading books set there and though this is only my third book by Thayer, it’s my favorite one so far! It had everything I look for in a beach read. It’s light and fun yet has plenty going on in the characters lives too, throw in a perfect summer location and some romantic drama and it’s the best possible combination for me for a summer read.

This is told solely from Keely’s perspective and begins when she’s a young girl and meets her future best friend, Isabelle. It follows both girls over the years until they’re almost thirty and you get to see them experience highs and lows, both in their separate lives and also in their friendship with each other. I’m really glad that Keely was the narrator as I liked her a lot more than I did Isabelle, she was just a genuinely good person trying to follow her dreams and maintain her relationship with her friend. Although Isabelle wasn’t my favorite kind of character both women were incredibly well developed and interesting.

Highly recommended to pack in your beach bag, this was charming, fun and featured plenty of drama and angst from the characters to keep you engaged.
The Surfside Sisters in three words: Breezy, Carefree and Charming ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mucho. Juro que la Javi no lo ama en vano.

A late post from me today because I just left my first activity of Thrillerfest 2019 ♀️ & I can’t wait for 2 more days of crime fiction fun!!
•
Thrillerfest is an annual crime fiction conference that takes place every July in NYC - and this year’s Thrillerfest has officially begun!!! I’m SO excited to catch up with friends & meet LOTS of authors. My Thrillerfest began with the absolute coolest activity this evening: I did an escape room with the team from @williammorrowbooks, including a couple of their authors, @gillymacmillan & @linwoodbarclay! It was SO cool. We *almost* made it out of the room in time, so that’s gotta count for something, right?!

In reading news, I am ALMOST done with the incredible Shannon Kirk’s new psychological thriller, GRETCHEN... and I could not love it more. This book has a genuinely mind-boggling reveal that absolutely knocked my socks off and I’m truly just dying to read the final 50 or so pages and see how it all ends. Shannon Kirk’s mind is seriously INCREDIBLE, I have no idea how she dreamed up this intricate, mind-boggling plot. And not only did she dream it up, but she executed it SO well. This book is a gothic suspense-meets-twisty thriller DREAM. ♀️ It’s got serious scares, some horror influences, psychological depth, and a totally original underlying concept. Basically it’s amazing, and if you’re up for something wild & CREEPY, this book belongs on your TBR. It’s on sale in just 2 weeks!!!

My question for you guys today is 100% drawn from the way I just spent my evening. If you could do an escape room with any author, who would you choose?! Who do you think would be best at solving puzzles
One of the most thoughtful and sharp novels I’ve read in a very long time. It doesn’t come out until January but friends, this is one not to be missed. It’ll make you laugh and cringe and maybe even see more of yourself than you’d like to. It’s so well done and I can’t wait to push this book on all my friends ✨ Also, required reading for each book you’ve enjoyed about race that’s been written by a white person. Thanks a million to @alexiswc for helping get this one into my hands ❤️

Woooo last week I read Red, White & Royal Blue because of course I did!! I saw it all over bookstagram and I’m so happy it did NOT disappoint. Alex and Henry are adorable and I loved how real the politics and complexities felt. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me and I hope it is for you all too if you read it/ will read it!-
Do you prefer books set in your country or other places?
