London to Swansea. Home to home. ✅ Here are some lessons I learned as a first time bikepacker: 1. Velotoze are lifesavers. Without these foot condoms keeping my feet dry I doubt I would have stayed so cheerful. They also weigh nothing so don’t take up space if you’re not using them. 2. Make sure your luggage is waterproof. I used the @rapha Bar Bag and Rear Pack and despite the shocking amount of wet encountered, everything stayed bone dry. Phew. 3. If it looks like it might rain for more than a third of your ride, don’t take a nice camera with you. It will only sit inside your bag all day and you’ll be cursing its dead weight up every damn climb. 4. Plot your route on @komoot for the cutest lanes and cycleways. It was like the whole route had been plotted by a local. But also be realistic – I’m glad I tweaked it to remove the last series of climbs for the far less picturesque but flatter route through Port Talbot. 5. Wear cargo bibshorts for easy access to snacks (crepes, dried apricots and @secrettrainingcc gels). Thanks to @komoot for the support in making this trip possible, it’s been on my bucket list for years and although the conditions were less than perfect and it’s probably put @ldn_brbr off Wales for life, I loved it and am already thinking about another trip.
