Gjirokaster is definitely an awesome place to visit. It's a small village with 20 000 habitants, with its beautiful old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, you can see the Gjirokastër fortress at the top (350 meters high), which exist since 12th century. You don't see the village on this edition, as it's down the forest !

А я, в свою очередь, расскажу вам о прекрасном историческом городе Гирокастре, который ещё называют "городом тысячи лестниц". Гирокастра отличается особенной, присущей только ей, архитектурой. Область, на которой построен город, имеет форму широкой руки Циклопа. Из-за этого здания, сгруппированные вокруг главной крепости, являются самостоятельными маленькими крепостями, а чтобы добраться до них, нужно все время подниматься или вверх в гору по мощёной улице или по каменным лестницам. Хотя первые следы поселения на месте города датируются I веком, место относят к истории XIV века, когда город назывался Аргирополин (или Аргиро). Своё название город получил в честь принцессы, которая, согласно легенде, дабы не попасть в плен к захватчикам, бросилась вниз с вершины крепости вместе со своим младенцем, который чудом выжил. Вплоть до конца XIV-го столетия Гирокастра была под протекторатом Венеции, а городом правил Албанский феодальный принц Занебиша. В XV веке город все-таки был захвачен Турками-османцами, и Гирокастра стала резиденцией Албанских феодальных лордов. Сейчас это один из главнейших пунктов назначения туристов со всего мира, который спешат почувствовать энергетику города, отведать традиционные местные блюда, а также опробовать известное албанское гостеприимство. И ещё одна, на этот раз семейная, легенда. Мой отважный пра-пра-пра-прадед во времена одной из русско-турецких войн полюбил и украл у султана жену, албанскую принцессу, и благополучно привёз ее в Москву. И, знаете, я даже верю в эту легенду, потому что иначе, чем как наличием албанского днк во мне, я не могу объяснить, как так легко, свободно и непринуждённо я освоила албанский язык.
