Perhaps one of the most important photographs I have ever taken... A picture that shows freedom is never free, and that even while I type this post, there are men and women fighting to protect and serve the land they love. This is a pic of one of my life long best friends saying goodbye to her husband who was Killed in Action in June 14, 2014. He was on his fifth deployment as a combat engineer and on a mission to clear the roads so more marines could travel safely in that route. On his last mission his convoy was attacked and SSGT David Stewart died alongside two other marines. He left behind a wife and two beautiful kids. This weekend I’m remembering David by talking about him. I am proud to say I had the honor to know him personally, as a friend and as the husband to a best friend. He was a great man. His infectious laughter, witty conversation, kind heart, and beautiful smile was witnessed and loved by so many. He loved his wife fiercely. Always taking pictures of her from across the dinner table while they traveled the countryside together. He loved being a Marine and felt it was his duty to deploy on these special missions. We live in a country where men and women of exceptional courage, strength, and honor die for people they don't even know, simply because they share the common love and freedom of this great nation. Let’s not forget that this weekend isn’t about cookouts and getting the boat in the water. These photos depict the Superhuman dedication and devotion to duty of the 3rd US Infantry (Old Guard) Soldiers who are tasked with guarding the Tomb of the Unknown’s at Arlington National Cemetery. If you’ve never witnessed the “Changing of the Guard” ceremony you’ve missed one of the most awe inspiring experiences one can have. These soldiers carry out their duty during snowstorms and sub-zero temps, hurricane force winds, and driving rainstorms as were experienced on Thursday of this last week. While lightning flashed across the inky dark sky, winds snapped trees at their trunks, and thunder shook the ground, these soldiers stood at their post honoring and guarding their departed brethren. On November 5th of last year, we all began to hear bits of information regarding the November 4th death of SFC Stephen Cribben of 2nd BN, 10th SFG(A) and were reminded yet again of the dangerous missions The Regiment regularly fulfills. Everyone who knew SFC Cribben was not surprised he was serving as he did as he was completely at home in Special Forces.  An example of where he gained his strength, the 10th Group Chaplain later commented on how SFC Cribben's parents, wife and family were the ones comforting ODA members on their return as opposed to the other way around.  The Cribbens are true Keepers of the Brave. Mr. Cribben asked that something be done this month recognizing the anniversary of Stephen's passing and we are more than honored to fulfill that request.  10th Group Flashes have been added to many of the Originals Blend Orders and all of of the Originals Blend orders will have a hand written note honoring SFC Cribben. At the end of the month, we will provide a report to the Cribbens of all Original Blend bag and k-cup sales for this month we will work with them to make a donation of at least 50% of the proceeds to a SOF Charity of the Cribben's choosing in Stephen's Memory. Our best to the Cribbens and the Brothers at 10th Group who served with SFC Cribben.  We apologize for the slight delay getting this out due to a busy weekend with 19th but we hope this small gesture keeps Stephen's memory alive and will work on something more for him in the future. This is my friend SSgt Vincent Bell. He is a dear friend of mine that I’ve known since I was a Private. He is the reason why Bell’s Old Glory Shop exists. He was KIA in Afghanistan in 2011 while on patrol. My son carries his name. Here are 5 fond memories I have of Vince. 1) We had a shared love of crotch rockets. 2) we were both ATS instructors 3) Vince and another Marine (Brown) used to run around giving us hugs after a bad day. They called themselves the “hug patrol”. 4) he loved Corona, and everytime I visit him at section 60 at Arlington, I bring him a Corona 5) When I was a student at ATS, he was my instructor. Every year, Memorial Day hits some harder than others. Meet the Schoeller family. Adam was one of 12 brave Marines killed in the Marine helicopter crash off the north shore of Oahu, HI on January 14th 2016 Hawaii time. They get together once a year to honor Adam. Such an honor to have them wearing my @ninelineapparel #neverforgotten shirt, as I simply couldn't put a value on it. January is a month our families unfortunately have in common.
