For any of you wondering the real story of how the General Lee came about, here you go. No, it was not pulled out of pond like the movie says, but the answer is here in the first episode of Season 7 called “Happy Birthday General Lee.” This tells the entire story of General Lee. A couple who robbed Gold Dust from Capitol City were driving a old Black Charger during the robbery. They are in a car chase with the sheriff who corrals them into a ditch wrecking the car. It ends up in Capitol City when a young Bo and Luke Duke show up just minutes after it arrives. There is a statement in this episode after the robbers ask the owner of the junkyard if they had seen the car. He tells them it was a “Beat Up Black 68 Coupe.” General Lee always known as a 69. I always thought that very interesting even though it could’ve just a little slip up. Bo and Luke get the Charger ready for Boss Hogg’s race, which was 2 days away. They paint the car orange, put an 01 on the door, a dixie horn, and the Confederate flag on the roof. And that was the moment our lives were forever changed when that car pulled out of Cooter’s Garage. They get into a chase with the robbers and end up doing the first ever jump of the General Lee! Bo and Luke arrive at the race and beat Boss at his own game in their first race with the General Lee. Season 4 Episode 11, “Goodbye, General Lee.” Bo and Luke enter the General Lee in the Hazzard County Jump and Fly Competition. As they make their try-out jump, the General Lee lands hard and damages the driveshaft. Luke crawls under and the driveshaft falls and hits him in the head. While he is in the hospital, Boss brings in a hypnotist to hypnotize Luke to get rid of the General Lee so he can win the competition easily. After he gets out, he talks the family into trading the General Lee, after Bo and Luke shot their bows in a competition on whether to trade or not. Luke won the shoot off. They take it to the town drunk, Hobie. They trade for a yellow Plymouth roadrunner. Hobie called Boss and he got the General Lee and had Rosco try to run it off Rainbow Cliff. It didnt work because Cooter was on a job and managed to stop him in time. As Bo and Luke were arguing one moment, Uncle Jesse snapped his fingers. The hypnotists hypnotized Luke to hate the General Lee until someone snapped their fingers. When he heard Uncle Jesse snap, he was back to normal. Bo and Luke race back to Hobie’s to get the General Lee back. They find out Boss has the bad guys take it out to destroy it. They chase them down before they can do so. Once they got him back, they still made it to the jump and fly and won! They told Boss to keep the prize money in trade for the General Lee pink-slip. Great episode of the show that a touch of drama between the Dukes which doesn’t happen often. In this episode of the Dukes of Hazzard called “The Great Hazzard Hijack,” Luke sends the General Lee flying through the air and slamming to the ground with an old marine buddy of his that was part of a robbery a few years prior. His friend from the Marines, who saved his life during a parachute jump, comes into town being chased by a agent who thinks they are suspects, they call for help on the CB to make it look like they were in trouble, which they were but in a different way. Bo and Luke answer and run the man off the road. They realize who each other is once they pull over and the Dukes invite them to stay at the farm. They make up a story for the Dukes they make it sound like Luke’s friends’ wife was a suspect and need to find the money that was lost after the robbery to prove her innocence. They help them find the money but they turn on them so they can keep it all to themselves since they were the ones who stole the money. They fight it out and they are arrest and put in jail. To close things out, Roy Orbison is caught in Rosco’s speed trap and plays “Pretty Woman” at the Boars Nest to pay off his ticket. In this episode, Daisy gets the show off her driving skills in the General Lee!!! This is Season 1 Episode 11 called “The Big Heist.” A man named Neil Bishop steals $30,000 dollars from Boss Hogg because he was took by him in a crooked deal. He has to hop in the General Lee to get away after the robbery because his car was being impounded at the same time. He doesn’t have the best luck in the world. Neil isn’t a bad guy all around because he didn’t even use a real gun for the robbery, he just put a screwdriver in his pocket and pointed it at him. He just felt he was done wrong and needed to get even. He takes the General Lee from Bo and Luke and takes it to the Boars Nest when he hears sirens. He meets Daisy and she brings him home because he doesn’t have anywhere to stay. Bo and Luke are arrested by Rosco and put in jail. Uncle Jesse goes to the jail and talks to them after he meets Neil for the first time at the farm. He new they were talking about the same guy because the pocket that was tore from the screwdriver on his jacket. Uncle Jesse goes home and Bo and Luke escape from jail by hanging enos on the wall tied up to a chair! They race home too and Neil meets Daisy and Jesse at gunpoint and Bo and Luke show up just shortly after to join the fun. Neil explains his story and the Dukes, being who they are, help return the money once Neil tells them it was Boss’ liquor money. Bo and Luke call in an old revenuer friend to catch Boss with the money. Daisy and Neil are in the General Lee decoying Rosco away while Bo goes in and returns the money. After everything is cleared up and all the money is taken care of, the revenuer said 10% of the money would be given to them for reward. The Dukes give the money to Neil so he can go back to his farm and start fresh! Great early episode and is definitely a great watch just like the rest of the show! This episode of the Dukes of Hazzard is one of the most memorable episodes for me. Season 4 Episode 2 “Double Dukes.” Boss Hogg hires 2 guys to rob the Hazzard Bank. The trick was he ordered a special package with masks and wigs to make the bad guys look just like Bo and Luke. He also had a replica General Lee made. This episode is one of the few times we see more than 1 General Lee on screen at the same time. To get Bo and Luke out of the way, the bad guys throw a pink smoke bomb in the back of the General Lee so they cant see. That was a colorful jump of its own. They tie them up at the Hazzard Coffin Works. They rob the bank and just after, Bo and Luke manage to get out. They run into Uncle Jesse, Daisy, and Cooter who had came into town looking for Bo and Luke and saw the bad guys do the robbery. Rosco was also there and he thought they were the bad guys. He realized it was the real Bo and Luke, he tried to arrest them. The others make a distraction for their getaway. They end up trying to find the bad guys which turns into a massive car chase with everybody. Boss, Rosco, Uncle Jesse, Daisy, the real and fake Bo and Luke, Sheriff Little, all of them. It ends with Bo and Luke running the bad guys of the road and rolling them over. Seeing the General Lee not land on its wheels is very weird but knowing its not the real Duke Boys makes it a little better. Classic Dukes of Hazzard episode and my favorite of the 4th Season. The Dukes of Hazzard Season 4 Episode 20 is such a great episode! Bo and Luke are being chased by Rosco as usual, this time for having a broken taillight. They thought it was another phony charger, but they actual did. As he is giving them a ticket, Flash gets Rosco’s secret diary and buries it at the Duke Farm. In that diary is everything Boss Hogg has done over the years all the way back to the One Armed Bandits operation. Uncle Jesse finds in at he is feeding his chickens and tell Boss and Rosco he will come bring it in without reading it. As he is bringing it in to town, 2 men who were just ripped off by Boss steals it from Uncle Jesse as a way to get what they are owed. Bo and Luke chase down the guys and their blue car is ran off a cliff with the diary inside destroying it and the diary. They tell Boss and Rosco that it was destroyed but they didnt believe them. They come up with an idea to let Boss and Rosco see the diary get destroyed. They buy one that looks just like it and manage to get them out a woodchipper by faking a fight. Bo drives the General Lee and Luke drives Boss and Rosco in the Hazzard Patrol Car. They destroy the diary along with a file of charges against Bo and Luke, which Boss brought as a trade for the diary. At the end of the day, there is no evidence against anybody. Love this episode! Season 2 Episode 7 called “Dukes Meet Cale Yarborough” is one of my top 3 favorite episdodes because of story line. Cale Yarborough is testing out a new turbocharger on his White 69 Charger. A group of people named the Jethro Brothers, who are trying to prevent him from winning the Illinois 500, attempt to steal the turbocharger and put it on their car. Cale meets Bo and Luke when they stubble on him racing around a abandoned race track while they were running from Rosco. The brothers team up with Boss to help them get the turbocharger. Bo and Luke are trying to sneak Cale out of town, but Rosco and Enos are always there cutting them off because The Jethro Brothers put a microphone in their car so they can hear exactly where they are going. Luke came up with an idea to make up 2 other General Lee’s to help decoy the others away from Cale. His idea works and they successfully get Cale out of Hazzard with his turbocharger. Cale goes on to win the Illinois 500 with the Jethro Brothers coming in last. I love this episode because there are 3 General Lee’s on screen at the same time. Who doesn’t love that!
