Attention current and future boat owners....THIS is why there’s this thing called the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and this little thing called “best practices” when installing or working on your boat. This awesome looking job is the result of a previous “expert” installing a manual bilge pump using clear RTV and drilling a large hole in the cockpit seat, right into the balsa core. Inevitably (clear RTV has NO place on a boat besides when attaching polycarbonate anything) it leaked badly, leading to the entire aft section of the seat rotting out. Messy, sucks and smells like a wet dog that fell into an outhouse chasing a skunk. My launch setback due to this? Two days of nasty work when I should be doing the bottom and getting ready to launch. And at exactly 8:35 today....Apparition is ready to sail. Wiring done, repairs done. Next step, take her out in the lake and get her set up for solo sailing....then get her (and me) out of here. This weekend Steve finished up the wiring project. He replaced everything from the old shore power plug, to adding 3 new outlets. A PO just wired everything directly to the batteries but now it goes through a new Blue Sea panel. Steve and installed the panel in the quarter berth adjacent to the chart table in a new teak board along with our radio, battery monitor and solar charging controller (yet to be hooked up) The shelf, headliner trim and chart table are all at home along with a few more pieces of teak. They have been cleaned, sanded and now have several layers of varnish.
