LOOKING FOR A DESIGNER? // Good design is an investment. And these days it’s tough to find good designers. There are so many people calling themselves “designers” or can whip you up a “logo” but have little to no experience. I’ve also seen designers who have years of experience who just don’t have what it takes. Design is a science of its own. Designers are problem solvers and good designers will want to look into the soul of your business before they do anything. So be so careful with whom you choose to bring your brand to life. You can do more damage than good. You wouldn’t let someone who didn’t know what they were doing work on your car, house or body. Design should be the same. The only reason people view it so differently is because it appears so accessible to the general public. Download Adobe, copy a logo off Pinterest = instant designer. Criticize that ad on tv = advertising expert. So spend the time really looking at a designers website and portfolio. Make sure you request a copy. The best designers will keep their best work away from prying eyes. I know I do!!! Check it’s not cookie cutter or a second rate version of someone else’s. And speak to them. Do they leave you feeling confident and excited about your project? Yes!? Then I think you found a good one!
Writing a post about gratitude today seems fitting. It’s a rainy Saturday but I’m working. Of course I’d love to take a break this weekend but in a moment of clarity I remembered that it wasn’t long ago that working for myself was just a dream.
I am so grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and even more so for the new things to come.
A note to self to not sweat the small stuff because the bigger picture is so much greater.
Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend.

Are you working with someone who knows what they're doing? ⠀
⠀
I am ⠀
⠀
♀️ I'm all for winging it and giving things a go, but sometimes you need a tribe of experts to get it right.⠀
⠀
I've worked in the industry for 9 years so I know a liiiittle bit about what’s what and who’s who (just sayin’). I may be flying solo, but I have plenty of resources and contacts that will help bring your brand to life - specialty letterpress printers, trade printers, large format printers, sign installers, copywriters, developers, paper reps...⠀
⠀
It's little things like recommending the lightbox background has two hits of colour so that when the light is on, it's not totally washed out, that makes a difference. My signage contact nails it every time. ⠀
⠀
It takes time to build relationships with the best industry specialists, so make sure you're working with someone who knows WTF they are doing so you get standout results. ⠀
⠀
Have you found your tribe?⠀

This week was all about putting the final touches on a special book I've been working on over the past three months. @ivyandpiperhome you have been a dream to work with and I can't wait to see this baby when it's finished with it's hand sewn binding and fabric swatch cover.
Ready. Set. Send to print!
