A review on #Hahnemuhle Cézanne, newly available #watercolourpapers I got from @artemedia_shop. My first time using it and I reaally like it! . I received it as a block of 10 papers. I knew this glued all sides format is to avoid the paper buckling but I decided to detach a sheet to see which side suits my techniques. It was quite hard to run a palette knife without leaving pressure marks on the paper, but I managed to remove a sheet and make a small test on both sides. Finding no significant difference between the two, I decided to paint this #Dendrobium on the top side, the one with more random (not the mesh) texture. . What made me very impressed was the drying time of #Cézannepaper. The paper was not as thirsty as #Arches, much easier to get an even glazing. The glazed area stayed moist longer than other brands I've tried, giving me a plenty of time to move paints around, lift off pigments, soften edges or add more colours and details using wet into wet. Felt like I could emulate 2-3 layerings on Arches with a single layer on Cézanne. . The pigments also flowed beautifully and remained vibrant after they dried. I enjoyed painting on it. No rush, I felt more relaxed . The cons, I found the surface sizing is not strong enough for lifting off technique, especially after the paper dried. A gentle rub of flat brush made the surface damaged/brittle. Thus, the paper is not very forgiving for mistakes and needs extra attention when applying/removing masking fluid or masking tape. The good news, it allowed lots of glazing and multi layering. Re-wetting the surface didn't distrub the previously dried layers. . Thanks to @artemedia_shop for sending me some samples of @hahnemuehle_global’s papers. I have a new favourite! Now I wish it will come as a big sheet, too. .
