... even with open doors. . I am little late for the last #homwork from @homsweethom ... Lauren Hom was teamed up with Stefan Kunz @stefankunz and his #halfbakedsketches . The assignment was to finish the well known sentence „Home is where ___“ with something personal. What I did was the first thing I thought of. It is funny and I liked the double meaning. At home you can do whatever you wanna do and no one complains about it. It’s the place where you can feel safe and accepted surrounded by people you love. And well yes it also is the place where it is most comfortable for doing my „business“ without a rush. Yes men, sorry to spoil you. Women are also humans and don‘t „produce roses“.

When curious onlookers ask “How difficult is it owning your own business?” Here’s my response... Honestly, hell YES it is challenging, especially when life is 20% creating (the fun part) and 80% is business management, paperwork, directing, meetings, proposal writing, getting organized, crying over taxes or lost files, troubleshooting, IT, paying vendors and subcontractors in a timely manner (especially when clients don’t) — it’s a nonstop endeavor (and not for everyone). I particularly love this quote from the @thedolectures : “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.” There are lots of extra hours because I hold our work to a very high standard and honestly the studio would be much more profitable if I didn’t care about the end result. I would also rather starve than take on a bad client… It’s also about embracing the uncertainty and managing the anxiety that comes from it. Much of the stress comes down to timing, because producing a quality products that’s going to meet clients goals doesn’t happen overnight. I have BIG plans this year so I’m going to put in the work and remind myself how grateful and privileged I am to be able to have a creative job in the first place.
